California residents should stay alert to soaring temperatures and potential wildfires this week due to challenging heatwaves and domes. The end of June brought significant weather concerns in parts of the U.S., with scorching heat in parts of California and the southern U.S. The high temperatures can potentially threaten vulnerable populations, including the following:

  • Older adults
  • Children
  • People with medical conditions
  • Pregnant women

This summer, it is expected that residents could experience another round of unusual heat. While relief is likely, the return of scorching heat can bring heat-related illnesses. According to a weather report by the NWS Weather Prediction Center on June 30, an excessive heat outlook is likely on the West Coast and parts of interior California on Tuesday. Commuters are advised to check for heat safety and advisories due to possible triple-digit temperatures.

In nearby areas, showers and thunderstorms are likely in the Southwest and Four Corners. Considering the heat outlook in parts of the country, vulnerable populations should keep updated with the latest weather advisories or limit outdoor plans.

According to a weather report, the surge of heat is expected in the following areas:

  • Reno
  • Elko
  • Fresno
  • Las Vegas
  • Phoenix
  • Cedar City

Meanwhile, NWS San Diego warned of a hotter weather outlook in the region, particularly for the much-awaited 4th of July holiday. People who spend time outdoors should keep hydrated to avoid heat-related health concerns. Temperatures are forecast to be three to six degrees above average.

In the Bay Area, a Red Flag Warning is present, including in areas in Marina, Sonoma Coastal ranges, and East Bay Hills. The forecast noted that easier fire could spark, and spread in shrubbery or grassland areas. In addition, unusual heat or extreme heat could hit portions of Fresno, California. There is a chance that temperatures could climb into the above 110-degree mark.
