According to the National Park Service (NPS), a bison roaming around the Lake Lodge cabins near Lake Yellowstone suddenly attacked a 47-year-old woman from Phoenix, Arizona.
Authorities said it was unknown how close the woman was when the bison attacked her. The unexpected animal attack is under investigation.
The reports explained that the woman and an individual were walking near the Lake Lodge. Then, they saw two bison around the area.
Immediately, the park visitors avoided the bison. However, one bison seemed to become wild and charged to the woman.
Meanwhile, the New York Post reported that bison can reach up to 2,000 pounds. With their sizes, they can charge at a fast speed, causing significant damage to a person.
CNN and NPS explained that Yellowstone recorded about 5,900 bison in 2022. Visitors should be extra cautious and alert while in the park areas.
Based on the report, the injured woman was immediately airlifted to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Furthermore, the report noted that bison could become unpredictable. NPS explained that bison can become more agitated from mid-July to August due to mating season.
