The intensity of tornadoes is measured based on the Enhanced Fujita scale or EF scale, as per the National Weather Service.

Four more tornadoes have been added to the list of tornadoes that occurred last weekend. The recent addition has increased the total number of tornadoes on the list to 13, according to the NWS, as cited by the Des Moines Register.

The latest updates below show the intensity, area, and casualties caused by the four additional tornadoes in Iowa on March 5.

The tornadoes vary in intensity from 0 to 5 under the EF scale:

  • An EF3 tornado at the Red Haw State Park in Chariton, Lucas County, killed one person.
  • An unspecified tornado was recorded in the city of Corning in Quincy Township, Adams County.
  • An EF0 tornado occurred in the city of Cromwell in Union County.
  • An EF1 tornado was reported in the city of Derby, Lucas County.

The four new additions are some of the 13 tornadoes in Iowa recorded as of Friday, March 11, since last week's tornado outbreak.

The highest number of casualties was reported in the city of Winterset in Madison County, Iowa-where an EF4 tornado killed six people and injured five others.

However, tornadoes can most likely form during severe weather, including storms and thunderstorms, or separately.

Based on the forecast, the whirlwinds are likely to be caused by storms during the US spring season which has already started this month.
