A chicken in Southwest China has laid a massive egg weighing nearly half a pound
When locals cracked the egg open they found a double yolk and, to the Guizhou villager's surprise, another egg, which they also cracked open and found another yolk.
Hopefully in a kitchen somewhere in Guizhou a special three-egg omelet was made from the monster egg.
The chicken that laid the rare egg reportedly prefers a diet of rice instead of grain or corn.
The woman who owns the chicken said that the thought the bird was dying when it laid the massive egg. The woman said her hen has laid several abnormally sized eggs and attributes the phenomenon to the chicken's preferred diet of rice.
Although it was enormous enough capture the attention of the world, the hen's egg was not a record breaker.
According to the Los Angeles Times, a Guinness World Records spokesman said "The largest hen egg was a five-yolked egg measuring [12.2 inches] around the long axis, [9 inches] around the short and weighing nearly [12 ounces]. It was laid by a Black Minorca at Mr. Stafford's Damsteads Farm, Mellor, Lancs [England] in 1896."
