A man bites a snake to death in the state of Bihar, India, recently. In a bizarre case of man vs. snake but with a plot twist, the incident took place at a railway site where the Indian man, who works in the area, was sleeping when the reptile attacked him. While most people would be afraid and flee, the case is different for a 35-year-old man, who decided to retaliate by grabbing the animal with an iron rod and biting it.
This is not the first time that an unusual incident occurred in the South Asian country. In recent years, a man in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, bitten a snake to pieces after it attacked him at his home. Snake attacks are relatively common across the nation.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), snakebite envenoming in India is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people each year.
Indian Man Bites Snake to Death
A man bites a snake to death in Bihar's Rajouli area in Nawada, where he works on a railway line project. According to local reports, the man named Santosh Lohar was sleeping at their laborer camp on the night of June 2, when a venomous snake bit him. Instead of cowering in fear, Lohar fought back by biting the snake three times until it died. The species of snake remains unclear at this time.
When asked, the railway worker told an Indian media outlet that his response was that way since the people in his village believe that a person must bite back a snake twice to neutralize its venom. Following the incident, local emergency personnel transported Lohar to a hospital for recovery.
While it may seem that biting back snakes is a massive win for humanity, wildlife experts and health authorities do not suggest such a method since it can be risky for the person. In this context, venomous snakes or large constrictor snakes are more dangerous, as documented in the past.
Prior to the recent Bihar snake attack, a related incident occurred after a snake bitten a drunk man in Uttar Pradesh. The strange case took place also one evening back in 2019 when the reptile entered the home of an Indian man and attacked him. However, the man crunched the snake into pieces but was taken to a hospital while in serious health condition.

India Snakebite Envenoming
Dangerous or fatal snake attacks do occur in different parts of the world. However, there are countries where the proximity between humans and snakes often leads to wildlife conflict.
In India, snakebite envenoming (bites from venomous snakes) are responsible for the deaths of approximately between 81,000 and 138,000 people each year, according to the WHO. In Bihar, where a man recently bit back a snake, is one of the top three provinces in India with the highest recorded number of fatal snake attacks, according to reports.
