US Tornado Shows to Be More Active Than Last Year, Report Shows

The latest report reveals that United States experiences more active tornadoes unlike last year. This June, it is expected that more tornadoes could unfold.

The country is no stranger to deadly weather events, including flooding, rainfall, hail, thunderstorms, and isolated tornadoes. Recent tornado reports highlight the significant damage in portions of the south-central U.S.

According to a report on June 4, the reports monitor the tornado trend, which shows an increase in activity, unlike the previous year. Additionally, May recorded the hyperactive activity of tornadoes, particularly in areas in the Midwest and Plains.

As of May 31, the report highlights that over 1,100 preliminary tornado reports had occurred. May 2024, with 552 preliminary tornado reports, is considered exceptional tornado activity.

In addition, the tornado activity this year was 39% higher than in 2023. Texas is also considered to have the most tornado reports, reaching 112. Unlike last year's report, Alabama and Georgia had fewer reports.

Various factors, such as changes in jet stream patterns, are attributed to the increase in tornadoes. As June, the third-most active month for tornado risks, begins, portions of the country could likely record more tornadoes.
