A recent report warned that climate change can cause destructive flooding based on the 1867 Washington historical data. Understanding flooding events will be helpful to assess the potential impacts of extreme weather events.

In the recent NWN report, climate change is crucial to unleashing destructive flooding and precipitation in the US. The condition can influence weather events, frequent heavy rains and widespread flooding.

As a result, researchers urged to reduce the alarming greenhouse gas emissions that can exacerbate climate change effects. In the US, the country has experienced deadly storms, flooding, winter, raging wildfires and extreme drought.

Washington, DC. The latest research discovered that climate change can unleash deadly and destructive flooding as the 1867 Washington historical data benchmark. The research findings were published in the PLOS Climate. Researchers employed the historical data and archives from the 1867 deadly flooding in Western Washington. Rising temperatures can also bring rapid sea level rise. Hotter temperatures can threaten people's and animals' health. Frequent climate change impacts can take less time for communities to anticipate.

The research findings were published in the PLOS Climate. Researchers employed the historical data and archives from the 1867 deadly flooding in Western Washington.

The study observed the flooding in California and Oregon from 1861 to 1862, analyzing the rainfall observations in Western Washington. The heavy rain and snowmelt helped to unleash extensive flooding, considering it was a wet condition due to the Little Ice Age and receding mountain glaciers.

They also compiled book and newspaper accounts about the said flooding and rising water levels in the region in 1867. Based on the historical archives on December 14-15 1867, the flooding was devastating, especially in California and Oregon.

Understanding climate change and flooding events will help communities to develop adaptation and mitigation efforts. It can reduce the impacts of future flooding exacerbated by rising temperatures.

Furthermore, researchers explained that the frequency of atmospheric rivers and severe rainstorms could cause more flooding concerns in parts of the US. The data will provide insights into the flooding history in California and Western Washington.

According to Professor Dan Gavin, the collected meteorological records were scattered. The team compiled the data with microfilm records to analyze the flooding events. Professor Davin is also a UO geographer.

Climate Change, Rising Temperature Effects

A recent report warned that climate change can bring rising temperatures to the US due to snowmelt and frequent rainfall. Climate change can play a significant role in the weather conditions in the US, including the following:

  • Drought
  • Raging wildfires
  • Heatwaves
  • Hurricanes
  • Storms
  • Winter

Rising temperatures can also bring rapid sea level rise. Hotter temperatures can threaten people's and animals' health. Frequent climate change impacts can take less time for communities to anticipate.

In the recent NWN report, the coral reef system in Florida became white, causing unhealthy corals. When corals suffer from poor health, it can affect the habitats of fish and other animals.
