The Mount Marapi volcano erupted with ash that blanked the area. The active volcano has made it more difficult for rescuers to look for the 12 remaining missing climbers.

Officials warned that the Marapi volcano is on alert levels due to high volcanic activity. Hikers and climbers are warned and prohibited from entering the volcanic site due to the hot ash and poor visibility.

According to recent reports, the said volcano in Indonesia has been active and on alert since 2011. With the help of rescuers, the 11 climber bodies were recovered as the Mount Marami erupted with ash.

Hendra Gunawan reminded people to avoid climbing to the peak. Gunawan serves as head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation.

Firefighters cleaning dust from volcano. The search and rescue operations have continued to save 12 missing climbers after the Mount Marapi volcano erupted, causing volcanic ash to nearby villages.

Before Mount Marapi erupted, at least 75 climbers were reported to hike to the 9,480-foot mountain on the weekend. Despite warnings from officials and announcements, some people still found ways to break the rules.

After the Mount Marapi eruption, nearby areas and villages were blanked by volcanic ash. The volcano is considered one of the 120 active volcanoes in the country.

In addition, people are advised to wear face masks and avoid prolonged exposure to ash and poor air quality. It can likely affect people's health, especially older adults and individuals with medical conditions.

At least eight people were immediately rescued on the weekend. Initial reports were that some climbers suffered from burns and broken limbs. They were immediately brought to the nearest hospitals. In the video, a climber was seen injured and transported via wheelchair.

Communities near the area are advised to stay alert to the potential activity of the volcano. Officials explained that the eruptions are challenging to detect as the volcano is not due to magma movement.

Meanwhile, the reports added that rescue operations are continuing to locate the 12 missing climbers on the mountain. The situation can become more difficult if the volcano still erupts, affecting the search in the area.

Near the mountain slopes, about 1,400 people reside in the area. People are advised to avoid illegal routes going to the volcano and observe the rules while hiking to avoid potential injuries and accidents.
