Using garlic butter to entice the insects to their deaths, a Queensland woman managed to keep gnats and fruit flies out of her home throughout this humid season.
Garlic Butter vs Gnats and Fruit Flies
A woman has received accolades for disclosing a straightforward yet resourceful method to get rid of fruit flies minus the use of any toxic sprays.
The little pesky insects, which may infect homes in large numbers, are typically drawn to sweet scents, such as fruit left out on the kitchen counter.
But the woman claimed that all you need to do to get rid of flies is to place a tiny cup of garlic butter on the countertop.
Pictures taken over five minutes demonstrate how the bugs were attracted to and caught in the sticky material before being discarded.
The annoying gnats and fruit flies will fall victim to the tempting garlic butter trap in 5 minutes, claims the Queensland woman.
She did, however, remark that while it is an unpleasant sight, it is preferable to having the insects fly everywhere.
The images depict more and more insects progressively being drawn to the garlic butter cup before they become stuck and perish.
While some commenters praised the concept, another person tried it and proved that it is effective. She gave the hack a perfect 10 and gave it her seal of approval. Additionally, the user claimed that after trying everything, this was the most successful.
Apple Cider Vinegar and Dishwashing Liquid
Before, other irate homeowners swore by a do-it-yourself method to permanently get rid of fruit flies from their homes.
A mother offered advice to individuals experiencing what she referred to as "feral pains" from fruit flies and gnats. She suggested a mixture of dishwashing soap and apple cider vinegar that will kill the insects in 30 minutes.
In the humid Queensland climate, one woman said she employed the same method to get rid of an "influx of fruit flies," Daily Mail reports.
The Country Living explains that flies are drawn to the stale sweetness that comes from the apple cider vinegar, and the dish soap serves to lower the surface tension of the mixture, leading the flies to immediately dive into the solution upon exploring it and becoming trapped therein.
Gnats and Fruit Flies
Common pest insects include fungus gnats and fruit flies. They produce so many of the same problems that homeowners frequently confuse them. Fruit flies and gnats are very distinct, even though the flying pests have comparable behaviors and a relatively similar appearance.
Since these minuscule pests are both approximately one-eighth of an inch long, it can be challenging for locals to distinguish between fruit flies and gnats. They can be distinguished from one another, but, by a few characteristics like their general color, shape, and eyes.
Fungus gnats are dark gray or black, while fruit flies vary between tan to black.
Fruit flies resemble a smaller, rounder form of the ordinary house fly in appearance. On the contrary, fungus gnats have long bodies and dangling legs that give them the appearance of little mosquitoes.
The eyes of fungus gnats are so small that they are difficult to spot, in contrast to the large, red eyes that make fruit flies simple to identify, according to Orkin.
