According to CNN and ABC News reports the fire could likely begin at 3:00 a.m. at the building where the animals were located.
The Alligator & Wildlife Discovery Center in Madeira Beach explained that the building had over 250 animals. It housed alligators, salt marine life, turtles, lizards, small mammals and tortoises.
The Pinellas County deputies spotted the flames from the wildlife building and immediately reported to the nearest fire department.
The reports noted that the fire crew responded with heavy smoke and flames from the buildings, with a defensive operation to control the fire.
After about 35 minutes, the report said the fire came under control.
When the fire was over, most animals at the wildlife died. The wildlife center explained that nearly all the animals suffered from the fire.
Some of the animals in the building were injured and recuperating before the fire broke out.
According to ABC News, Sonny Flynn, owner of the wildlife center, explained that the animals did not deserve the fire.
Flynn explained that all animals in the center had names and their own personalities, which Flynn talked about in the morning.
The Alligator and Wildlife Discovery Center posted on Facebook that the center was devasted after the fire that killed most animals.
Meanwhile, people commented and shared their condolences to the animals that died at the center.
