A storm is potentially developing in the Eastern United States, where it could bring heavy rain and flooding in the coming days, according to local meteorologists.

The latest forecast said that millions of American could be affected by the brewing coastal storm off the East Coast.

Forecasters also predicted the weather system could this weekend until early next week.

The latest U.S. weather forecast comes after a separate system brought severe weather and risk of tornadoes across the Southeast U.S., where at least one tornado in Florida was confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS).

Regardless, the East Coast storm could also bring strong winds, leading to high surfs or large waves that can cause coastal flooding or coastal erosion.

In its evening report on Thursday, April 28, Fox Weather said it is tracking a new storm that is expected to bring rainfall in the Eastern U.S., including in cities like New York City, New York; Chicago, Illinois; Nashville, Tennessee; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Portland, Maine.

The adverse weather is forecast to impact most of the East Coast from Sunday to Monday, April 30 to May 1.

Within this period, widespread disruption across different eastern states is possible.

The Eastern U.S. coastal storm is a low-pressure area that has been developing off the coast in the Atlantic Ocean, bringing showers across the region.

The Fox forecast adds the Great Lakes and Northeast region could just shrug off the incoming showers.

However, the case is different down to the central and southern parts of the East Coast.

Coastal Storm Threat

The U.S. East Coast is not new to coastal storms.

In fact, the region has experienced not only with relatively weaker storms but also powerful hurricanes.

Coastal storms can cause flooding and storm surge, as well as the potential for severe damage, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

While the approaching low-pressure system is not expected to intensify into a strong coastal storm.

However, the storm's potential for damage and disruption cannot be ruled out.

Severe Weather Outbreak

Since the meteorological spring's start on March 20, the U.S. has experienced a multitude of severe weather outbreaks, including weather hazards like tornadoes and flooding.

The weather is also expected to be generally tranquil unlike during the months that preceded spring.

Earlier in 2023, AccuWeather meteorologists in February also issued a forecast that a coastal storm will bring wind, rain, and snow to parts of the Eastern U.S.

Unlike last year's coastal storm, this season's storm will be more inclined to those of the spring season rather than during the winter.

Similar forecasts were also made during March, wherein a severe coastal storm could bring a triple threat of snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding.
