Multiple weather alerts are issued as winter weather and blizzard conditions develop in the Midwest of the US.

The Upper Midwest and Great Lakes are once again experiencing winter as a storm system moves slowly north.

Weather Overview

Portions of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan currently have winter storm warnings, blizzard warnings, and weather advisories in effect.

Up to 18 inches of snow could fall in parts of northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Upper Midwest will be very difficult to travel through.

In a region extending from Wisconsin to Ohio, wind gusts could be as high as 50 mph. Then, later this week, another storm system will start moving in, bringing more appreciable snowfall and extremely low temperatures.

As the cold front associated with this system moves east, heavy rain may lead to flooding over the Ohio Valley and Northeast.

On Monday, the Northwest experienced coastal rain as well as mountain snow, and on Wednesday, the Plains are expected to experience severe storms, including tornadoes the following days, FOX News reports.

Blizzard Warning

Up until 2 AM EDT on Tuesday, a blizzard warning will be in effect for the anticipated blizzard conditions in Gogebi County, Michigan. Additional snowfall of 1 to 8 inches is expected. The county's western regions near Wakefield and Ironwood will experience the heaviest snowfall, and as you move away from Lake Superior, the amount of snowfall will gradually decrease. Travel could be very challenging, according to officials. Visibility will be significantly lowered by widespread blowing snow. The evening commute will be impacted by hazardous conditions.

Another Blizzard Warning for blizzard conditions, additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, and winds gusting as high as 40 mph are in effect until 7 PM today. The Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation is located in Southern Cook County in Minnesota, which is the area that is affected.

The National Weather Service reports that officials forecast the snow will be wet and heavy, so drivers should prepare for slick road conditions. They also predict that patchy blowing snow might significantly reduce visibility.

Multiple Weather Alerts

In the meantime, several states, including Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan, have multiple weather alerts posted.

Wisconsin has a long list of flood warnings, advisories, and winter storm advisories. Iowa's list is shorter with 7 Flood Warnings, Illinois has multiple Flood Warnings, Wind Advisories, a Special Weather Statement, and three Frost Advisories that will end tomorrow at 9 AM CDT. Most of the Flood Warnings and Advisories are in effect until further notice.

3-Day Forecast for Gogebic, Michigan

Gogebic will experience a snowy day with very cloudy skies from the morning until the last hours of the evening. The snowfall will continue until 3 AM the next day. In the afternoon tomorrow, the sun will shine from clear skies. The clouds will start to return at 11 PM Tuesday and will continue until 6 AM. By 7 AM, the sun will peek very briefly and showers will start by 11 AM, The Weather Channel reports.
