Tornado Watch and Other Alerts
Parts of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio were placed under a Tornado Watch at 10:30 AM that lasted until 5 PM. This watch covers most of Southern and Central Indiana including 57 counties.
Additionally, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for New Whiteland, Shelbyville, and Franklin. Hail up to an inch in diameter and winds of 50 mph are both possibilities. Residents are urged to find shelter in a strong building, according to the Indy Star.
Parts of central, north-central, south-central, east-central, southeast, southwest, and west central Indiana are also under a wind advisory until 8 PM today. Winds from the southwest will blow through the area at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. In addition, strong winds may blow unsecured objects around. There may be a few power outages and tree limbs that are blown down.
The National Weather Service also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook over central Indiana marking today and tonight as Day One. Several thunderstorms that are anticipated across western Indiana early this morning are what prompted the outlook. It's possible to experience isolated quarter-sized hail and damaging wind gusts reaching as high as 60 mph.
From late morning until mid-afternoon, a line of thunderstorms is anticipated to progress through central Indiana. The main danger from this line of storms is damaging wind, although some tornadoes are also entirely feasible.
Today is predicted to have strong winds with gusts of up to 45 mph outside of thunderstorms.
