The intense and rapid blast of arctic air in the Northeast is expected to unleash colder weather, and temperatures will drop from Friday until the late weekend.

Recent reports showed that portions of the Northeast suffered from heavy snow and freezing rain due to relentless winter storms.

In the South, CNN News reported that the powerful ice storm unloaded freezing conditions and ice, causing about six casualties, property damages and widespread power disruptions.

Northeast, Midwest and the South recorded a barrage of winter storms. This late week, AccuWeather's latest report said that the polar vortex would unfold in the Northeastern United States, bringing unusual extreme cold.

In Canada, The Weather Network reported that the polar vortex phenomenon would play a significant role in unloading freezing conditions and challenging weather.

The blast of arctic air and polar vortex could result in problematic travel conditions and health concerns. Communities in the Northeast should keep updated with the troublesome weather conditions.

In the previous news reports, New York City (NYC) suffered from a snowless streak, reaching about 300 days. The snow that unfolded in January was insufficient for a measurable snowfall.

However, the latest ABC News report showed that NYC recorded a measurable snowfall this February. The report added that the beginning of the month in NYC had milder weather conditions, producing less snow this winter season.

Meanwhile, AccuWeather reported that the polar vortex is forecast on Friday, affecting Minneapolis, Kansas City, Chicago, New York, Boston and Washington.

  • The polar vortex is forecast to unleash the coldest temperatures in Canada.

Nature World News reported that the polar vortex refers to the massive amount of cold air that can bring freezing weather.

The report noted that the polar vortex and arctic air would help unload ice storms, heavy snow and extreme temperatures.

The polar vortex phenomenon can significantly contribute to flight cancellations, slower commutes, travel disruptions, and damage to homes.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast on Friday showed that the weather would become colder on Friday night in Pittsburg, Washington, New York City, Boston, Portland, Buffalo, Burlington and Caribou.

  • On Saturday morning, the weather report noted that the temperatures would become dangerously cold in Detroit, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Washington D.C., Montreal, Syracuse, Bangor, Boston and New York.

Ice storm in Southern Plains and Mid-South

On the other hand, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported that about 12 million people are in ice storm warnings in Southern Plains and Mid-South.

The weather advisory added that about 7 million people are under winter storm warnings due to the severe weather conditions.

The challenging weather in the Southern Plains raised concerns over travel safety and slower commutes.

The NWS's latest forecast said that freezing rain would unleash Thursday in Northern Texas, Arkansas, Southern Oklahoma and Memphis.

Consulting the weather before traveling is essential.
