A giant 2.5-meter tiger shark stalked the water near a Perth beach in Australia, according to an aerial drone footage, which showed that the sea creature was swimming near beachgoers. The temporary shark threat led to the closure of the beach.

In a YouTube video uploaded by Yahoo Australia, a drone footage shows that the giant tiger shark was swimming close to beachgoers in the waters off Mullaloo Beach in Perth, Western Australia. The beach was closed after the predator was spotted lurking in its habitat on Monday, January 9. The clip also says this is the second time the shark nicknamed "Trevor" was seen in the area over the past week.

The aerial footage was captured by two-Perth based drone photographers named, Chelsea Carroll and Sam Wood, and originally uploaded to Instagram. Based on the comments on the Instagram post, users are theorizing the shark came to the shoreline to hunt small fish hiding from its predators in the shallow water, The Canberra Times reported.

A portion of the footage also showed the shark swimming near the ocean's edge, where crowds gathered to witness the animal's dorsal fin stick out of the clear blue water, according to the Australian daily newspaper.

Mullaloo Beach is only a 25-minute drive north of Perth. The beach's name 'Mullaloo' is based after the local indigenous term meaning 'place of the rat kangaroo.'

Adelaide Beach Great White Shark

The tiger shark sighting at Perth beach came just two days after a great white shark was seen off the waters of Adelaide beach on Saturday, January 7, which was also covered by Nature World News this week. The massive shark was spotted by fishermen and also captured on video swimming near Aldinga Beach in Adelaide, South Australia, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Adelaide beach incident also involved a 2.5-meter shark which was earlier spotted by a lone fisherman at the Perth beach last week. Despite the high alert caused by the two separate shark sightings, there were no recently reported shark attacks in the said areas.

However, sharks attacks have occurred across the country in recent years, ranging from the west to the east coasts.

Australia Shark Attacks

In February 2022, Sydney's first fatal shark attack in almost 60 years led to the death of a 35-year-old British man named Simon Nellist, a diving instructor who was mauled to death by a great white shark in the waters off Little Bay in east Sydney.

Nellist was a member of the city's Scuba Diving Social Club and was a frequent swimmer at the beach, according to BBC Sydney correspondent Shaimaa Khalil.

In November 2021, Paul Millachip, 57, died from an apparent attack involving a tiger shark and a great white shark off Port Beach in North Fremantle, Perth. Two teenagers at that time confirmed the presence of the two sharks, ABC reported.
