350,000 Animals Rescued as Famous Car Companies Pledge Help to Shelters

So far, more than 350,000 animals have been saved, after famous car companies pledge and donate to help animal shelters across US.

Some of the most well-known automakers in America are taking action to rescue shelter animals.

To help thousands of pets find new homes in 2022, Kia, Jeep, Subaru, and Nissan collaborated with volunteer groups and charitable organizations.

6.3 million companion animals are reportedly brought into US animal shelters each year, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

There are about 3.1 million dogs among them.

Each year, about 400,000 of those dogs are put to sleep because they are unable to find new homes.

Car Companies Help Shelters

Kia America

As a result of Kia America's year-long partnership with The Petfinder Foundation, 22,422 animals from shelters across the country have been adopted into permanent homes, the company announced today.

The program began in February, the same month that Kia's robotic dog-themed Super Bowl commercial debuted.

During that time, Kia donated $500,000 to help with adoption expenses.

Subaru of America

Subaru of America is currently running its annual Share the Love campaign, which aims to highlight four national charities alongside regional charities in advertising along with targeted donations from Subaru vehicle buyers and dealers.

Subaru will donate $250 to the buyer's preferred charity from a list of recognized groups that include the ASPCA, National Park Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and Make-A-Wish for each new vehicle purchased, either via sale or lease, during the holiday season.

The automaker is the ASPCA's largest corporate donor. Subaru, together with its retailers have donated more than $42 million to local and national pet-focused organizations through their decades-long Share the Love events, enabling the adoption, rescue, transport, and medical care of 350,000 animals and pets, Newsweek reported.

To support local animal shelters, Subaru teammates also gathered hundreds of used household items, such as towels, linens, balls, and many others.

Additionally, more than 300 used T-shirts were gathered.

With donated yarn and pipe cleaners, more than 100 coworkers used these materials to make pet toys.

According to Subaru, this project not only helped local shelters but also Subaru's green initiatives by collecting used items to divert them from the waste stream.

Additionally, all unused T-shirt scraps that couldn't be turned into toys were sent to TerraCycle's repurposing program for reuse and recycling.

Animal Rescue Rigs Paws One by Nissan North America

Several journalists specializing in automotive are donating their resources and time to transport unadopted dogs from a region of the country where the animals are having trouble finding foster homes to that region during the holiday season, according to Animal Rescue Rigs.

The team is traveling to Omaha, Nebraska, where Frodo, a beagle, and several other dogs have been waiting in foster care, unnoticed, under the leadership of automotive journalist Nik Miles, a huge dog lover himself.

They'll transport these dogs to Portland, Oregon where there are fewer beagles and a higher likelihood that they'll find homes quickly.

The teams will stop at TV stations along their route to talk about the rescue effort and spread the word about how important pet adoption is during the holiday season.

Since over 390,000 dogs are put to death each year in animal shelters, it truly means the difference between life and death.

Vehicle Donation. In addition to the Rescue Mission, a 2018 Nissan Titan was used to build the PAWS One, a customized animal rescue rig.

The Basset & Beagle Rescue of the Heartland will receive the keys once Miles reaches Omaha, Nebraska.

After leaving the shelter, Miles and other press personnel will travel back to Portland in a 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that Jeep has lent to the group.

Animal Rescue Rigs, a 501c3 nonprofit, is the owner of the car.

Frodo will be picked up by Miles and added to his family. As they travel across the nation's heartland to be adopted in other places, additional dogs will be taken in along the way.
