The UK weather seems to be experiencing renewed decline from the warm and hot conditions the country experience several months ago.

On Sunday, November 20, the Met Office issued a warning for damaging winds and cold temperatures for the upcoming week starting Monday, November 21.

In particular, the UK weather agency placed a yellow wind warning for Southwest England and South Wales.

The warning was issued amid icy temperatures as a cold snap is likely to bring the risk of fog, according to the agency.

The UK weather forecasters said the first signs of renewed cold weather in the UK can be seen on Monday wherein several parts of the Britain could be hit by heavy winds, dropping temperatures, icy roads, and heavy rain.

Flooding is also possible in communities near low-lying areas.

Similar to the recent weather events in the US, the UK is also experiencing the same cold weather phenomenon since both countries and other locations in the Northern Hemisphere are entering their winter season, which spans each year from December to February. During this period, snow accumulation can reach several feet and temperatures could drop to freezing or subfreezing levels.

The Met Office issued its "UK 5-day weather forecast" and emphasized on the looming threat of frost and fog in the Northeast UK, as well as wet and windy weather for the Southwest UK.

Valid from Sunday to Thursday, November 20, the short-range forecast says the occurrence of heavy rain will affect Northern Ireland, Wales, and Southwest England.

These weather conditions will eventually move toward the northeast and across central-eastern England.

Strong winds will also strike the southwest but fog will clear in the northeast on Monday.

Yellow Wind Warning

The said yellow wind warning issued by the agency will take effect from 6:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday; wherein wind gusts could reach between 55 miles per hour to 65 miles per hour on land and 70 miles per hour to 80 miles per hour by sea.

Met Office Meteorologist Alex Burkill stated the colder weather would deliver a risk of ice and fog, which could make driving conditions difficult, as cited by The Guardian.

Two areas of low pressure were expected by meteorologists to bring very wet and windy weather.

The first area will comprise of northwest of Northern Ireland and the second will be in Ireland and Southwest England, Burkill added.

The meteorologist also clarified that there could be significant rainfall in western areas of Wales and Northern Ireland on Monday.

UK Winter Season

Based on previous weather reports, the UK is likely to experience further rainfall or snowfall as temperatures may continue to drop in the coming days and weeks during the winter in December.

According to the British Council, winter is the UK's coldest season, characterized by freezing temperatures, icy conditions, and sometimes snow.
