Two weather advisories from National Weather Service (NWS) were issued over parts of Michigan. A Winter Storm Warning and a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect as totals reaching 15-inch snow accumulation are expected.
Forecast for Today
Today, snow showers will be passing across northern Michigan. Bands of lake effect will form in the Lower Peninsula to the west of I-75, bringing with them some significant snowfall. Lower snow totals are anticipated in the Lower Peninsula east of I-75 and the Upper Peninsula away from Lake Michigan. The region's high temperatures are expected to be in the low to middle 30s. Wind will blow at 5 to 15 mph from the west or southwest. Wind gusts will be stronger and could reach up to 25 mph along Lake Michigan.
There will likely be more snow tonight. East of I-75, there will be little to no snowfall, but in the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula near the bridge, there may be some bands of heavy snowfall. Except for along Lake Michigan, where the wind will gust to 25 mph, winds will be light from the west, ranging in speed from 5 to 15 mph. Tonight will likely be in the 20s with low temperatures.
Forecast for Tomorrow
Dispersed snow showers are predicted for Friday. The snowfall could be heavier in areas west of I-75. From the bridge to Manistee, the two-day snowfall amounts for Thursday and Friday may reach 5 to 10 inches, with some towns receiving up to 15 inches. For Michigan, high temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s. West wind gusts along Lake Michigan will be greater, with speeds ranging from 5 to 15 mph.
Snow showers are predicted for the entirety of Michigan by Friday night, but there will be additional bands of heavy lake-effect snow close to Lake Michigan. In the Lower Peninsula, overnight snowfall totals of up to 6 inches are possible. Low temperatures range from 15 to 25 degrees.
Forecast for the Weekend
Snow is predicted for Saturday and it will be cloudy. The highs will be around 28 degrees, and the wind will gust to 25 mph. Snowblowing could be problematic.
There will be snow and a breeze on Saturday night. The local wind chills could reach single digits. Low temperatures will fall between 12 and 25 degrees.
Michigan will experience more snow on Sunday, though not as much as on Saturday. The sky will be mostly cloudy. There will be some blowing snow, though, with gusts exceeding 25 mph. The wind chill will make temperatures feel colder despite the highs being in the 28 to 32-degree range.
Next week's forecast indicates that Monday and Tuesday will have mainly cloudy skies. There could be flurries, but it doesn't appear to be much snow. The temperature highs will range in the 30s. Most of the day on Wednesday will be cloudy, with highs averaging in the low 40s, ABC74 Up North Live reports.
