Freeze alerts have been issued by US weather authorities as a cold weather is set to hit most parts of the United States next week.

In particular, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a freeze warning and a freeze watch since it has projected that temperatures will be below-average during the upcoming week from Monday, November 14.

Before the upcoming cold week, the NWS forecasts there will be a quiet weather for the Lower 48 on Sunday, November 13.

Still, there will be isolated rain events in the Northeast US and "lake effect snow downwind" from the Great Lakes.

The tranquil Sunday could also involve clear skies with relatively high humidity and moderate winds.

The relative calm weather comes after the Western US was gripped by a major winter storm and after Hurricane Nicole made landfall in Eastern Florida, churning its way up into the Northeast through the East Coast.

The recent hurricane left a trail of destruction, causing notable damage on coastal communities in the Sunshine State and killing at least four people amid floodwaters, heavy rain, and powerful winds.

The NWS said a system could develop on Monday across the South US, bringing some weather hazards like light snow, strong storms, and heavy rain.

In its latest weather outlook on Saturday, November 12, the US weather agency through its Weather Prediction Center (WPC) issued a freeze warning and a freeze watch across the Southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, and Tennessee Valley.

The cold week will be caused by an upper-level energy moving across the West and the Northern Rockies.

During the weekend, the energy over the Midwest will produce the said lake effect snow downwind from Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, and Eerie from Saturday to Sunday, the NWS - WPC added.

In addition, a cold high pressure will occur over the Southern Plains where temperate can vary between 10 to 15 degrees lower than the average over the region, prompting the said freeze alerts.

The agency's weather forecast is valid from Sunday to Tuesday, November 15.

US Winter Season

In recent US weather forecasts, meteorologists have attributed winterlike weather conditions for the country, particularly for the American West.

These forecasts come as the current fall season is now on its last month, which will introduce the winter season starting December.

In October, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicted that the La Nina climate pattern will play a role in the upcoming winter for the third consecutive year, as cited by Fox Weather.

Also called as the "climatological winter," which runs from December to February, the NOAA's 2022-2023 winter outlook on October 20 suggested a drier winter for the South US but with a wetter winter for the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, northern Rockies, and US Pacific Northwest.

Although the occurrences of hurricanes are expected to mitigate or stop by November 30, which is the end of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, they could be replaced by renewed winter storms and blizzard conditions during approaching winter.
