A dog was seen biting a human head while running along a street in a town in north-central Mexico, according to media reports in recent days.

The bizarre incident was caught on video and went viral on social media, as well as to the international media. The exact circumstances that led to the actual footage remains unclear. Yet, some reports suggest the canine got the said head from an ATM booth.

The Daily Mail UK uploaded a copy of the 'dog with a human head video' on Friday, October 28. During a 17-second clip, it can be seen that a seemingly stray dog was carrying the severed human head while it was running along the street's sidewalk. The UK media outlet states the dog snatched the head from an ATM booth, which became a crime scene where human remains were dumped by alleged cartel groups.

The site of the gruesome scene occurred in the Mexican city of Zacatecas; a place plagued by violence caused by cartel members. Multiple sources said the dog placed the decapitated human head in its jaws from the said booth, with a message warning showing "the next head is yours." Law enforcement have not identified the victim yet but the killings in the area have been linked to the cartels.

Cartel Message Warning

Local officials stated the dismembered head was left at the booth in the Monte Escobedo town late on Wednesday, October 26. It was also during this instance where the message warning was found placed on a cardboard placard.

The Mexican police also confirmed the detached head was likely connected to drug cartel crime and local officials confirmed the police were able to pull the head of the animal's mouth, as cited by Fox News. A law enforcement official adds the head and other human body parts were also left at the ATM machine in the town.

The site was evidently considered a crime scene. However, the stray dog grabbed the head and left the area even before the local police could secure the scene, the US news outlet says. An unfiltered footage posted on social media showed the dog was carrying the human head by the neck.

Zacatecas is known as a scene of recurring bloody, expanded territorial war between local gangs backed the notorious Sinaloa cartel and Jalisco cartel, according to CBS News.

Scavenger Dogs

The dog like the one in Zacatecas is only one of the many dogs scavenging on busy streets in some urban areas. Still, people are used seeing them eat garbage and leftover food in the public.

The recent surfaced video of the stray dog with a human head revisits the idea if dogs also eat human flesh and their body parts. In the case of domesticated setting, most of these cases occur between pet dogs and their owners but only after the latter has died.

Over the last 20 years or more, dozens of such case reports which appeared in forensic journals showed that dogs have scavenged their expired owners' bodies, as cited by National Geographic.
