Tropical Storm Nalgae, locally known as Paeng, brought heavy rains to the Philippines from Thursday night to Friday, according to the weather forecast.

A few days before Halloween, the country experienced flooding rainfall that could result in landslides and flooding. Meanwhile, AccuWeather's latest forecast said that heavy rain could be expected in the Philippines and other Southeast Asia countries as the storm was tracked to move west this weekend.

 Before the rain made landfall, local authorities evacuated people who could have been affected by Tropical Storm Nalgene in Samar province, according to Reuters 

Reuters reported that Tropical Storm Nalgae impacted most of southern Maguindanao. Although the place prepared for the storm, BARMM interior minister Naguib Sinarimbo said the rainfall was more than expected. BARMM is the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao .

The report also added that the tropical storm brought 75km (47 miles) of packing winds per hour. The strong winds and heavy rains resulted in the temporary cancellation of flights.

Meanwhile, AccuWeather said Tropical Storm Nalgae was seen at 350 miles east-southeast Manila on Friday. The storm is expected to hit areas in southwestern China and Taiwan next week.

The report added that the storm resulted in 42 deaths. It unleashed heavy rains and mudslides that affected the residents in the said area.

Atlantic Ocean and United States

On the other hand, the National Hurricane Center said in the latest weather update that they were monitoring disturbed weather in the eastern Caribbean Sea. HNC said that the brewing system had a conducive environment allowing for the potential development of a tropical depression in the coming weekend or early next week.

 Meanwhile, the advisory added that locally heavy rainfall could occur in portions of the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Lesser Antilles this weekend.

In the United States, forecasts showed that it could have a rainy start in November while Americans enjoy Halloween. The report said rain showers could occur in Kentucky, New York, Bat Cave, and North Carolina.

Meanwhile, the weather outlook showed that some parts of the U.S. could have mild and stormy weather starting in November.

  • Portions of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Billings could expect stormy and cool weather.
  • On the other hand, a mild temperature outlook could also unleash in Washington, Charlotte, Kansas City, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and Jacksonville.

Storm aftermath

The storm in the Philippines, locally known as Paeng, left casualties and damage to homes. Heavy rains caused landslides, flooding, and mudslides. Here are some tips during the storm's aftermath.

  • Many residents went to evacuation centers after the storm made landfall. As you return to your home, it is important to stay updated with weather reports and announcements from local authorities.
  • Be careful with floodwaters and landslide-prone areas as you go back. It is significant to ensure that the area is safe. Watch out for debris and damaged power lines.
