A minimum of four weather warnings will continue throughout the day Tuesday for some parts of Michigan as flooding, strong wind gusts, and freezing winter weather persists.
Otsego, Montmorency, Crawford, Kalkaska, Wexford, Antrim, Missaukee, Cheboygan, Charlevoix, as well as Luce County, are under a Winter Weather Advisory that lasts until noon. Residents are cautioned to be cautious of slick roads and poor visibility.
For Emmet, Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Antrim, Benzie, Manistee, western Chippewa, Oceana, Mason, and Charlevoix County, including Beaver Island, the NWS issued a Wind Advisory for today and tonight.
Forecasts indicated that wind gusts of over 50 mph may occur close to the Great Lakes.
Luce County is under a lakeshore flood warning today and tonight. Along Lake Superior, flooding and beach erosion are anticipated.
Grand Traverse County has a Lakeshore Flood Advisory in effect for today and tonight.
In the southern portions of both the West Bay and the East Bay, flooding and beach erosion are potential problems.
At the Mackinac Bridge, there is also a high wind warning in addition to the weather alerts.
Drivers are advised to use the outside lane, decrease their speed to no more than 20 mph, and activate their four-way flashers.
Wet Snow, Slippery Roads on Tuesday
Watch for a rain and snow mix on Tuesday morning.
At or near the Great Lakes, rain is more likely, and inland, expect mostly snow.
There will be a buildup of heavy, wet snow.
Watch out for areas of the road that may be wet and slick. Today's highs in Michigan will typically be 42 degrees.
The morning's rain and snow mix will change to just rain showers for the afternoon as the temperature rises. Northerly winds will blow with gusts of up to 40 mph, while the Great Lakes could experience gusts of more than 50 mph.
As temperatures drop on Tuesday night, the early-evening rain showers will change to a mix of rain and snow.
The overnight low temperatures will be in the 30s range.
In the vicinity of the Great Lakes, it will be a little warmer. This region is likely to receive snow because it is farther from the lakes, where it is closer to freezing. Road wetness and possibly slipping hazards should be avoided.
A few inches of snow accumulation are predicted, but lake-effect snow bands will form and become common in some towns.
Northern or northwesterly winds will have gusts of up to 40 mph.
