Iguazu Falls recorded a high flow of water, which reports said was ten times greater than usual, causing authorities to take precautionary measures.

The Iguazu Falls have been recognized worldwide for its waterfalls and mesmerizing beauty. According to UNESCO, the waterfall is considered one of the most well-visit and magnificent waterfalls in the world, bordering the Brazil's state of Parana to the north and Northeastern tip of Argentina.

AFP reported that the tourist bridge was closed as the water in the falls became high and for safety concerns. Both Brazil and Argentine sides showed that walkways were closed until the water flow returned to normal.

Meanwhile, an AccuWeather report (October 15, 2022) said that the Iguazu Falls flow recorded 3.8 million gallons of water (per second) at the midweek, which is unusually higher than the normal water flow of the Falls at 396,258 gallons of water (per second). However, the report explained that the surge in the water in the Falls also appeared in June 2022 due to torrential rainfall increasing the water flow five times.

The report from AFP and AccuWeather showed heavy rainfall affected the nearby communities in the southern Brazilian state, impacting over 24 municipalities in the area, with 1,200 residents evacuated and 400 homes damaged.

The report from UNESCO recorded the Iguazu Falls as part of the World Heritage List in 1984. The Iguazu Falls has subtropical rainforest with 2,000 diverse species of plants and animals. UNESCO said the area has over 80 tree species, 400 bird species, and 80 mammals, including rare species of Jaguar, broad-snouted Caiman, Giant Anteater, Ocelot, and Harpy Eagle. The area has rich biodiversity and is subject to conservation.

The conservation of the falls and many species in the remnant of the Atlantic Rainforest are important, noting that it is known for significant habitats, UNESCO added.

Meanwhile, IguazuFalls.com noted that tourist attractions and the Park recorded millions of visits. The data in 2019 showed that the Park received over 1,640,000 visitors consisting of both local and foreign visitors. The park records size of 252,982 hectares for both Argentina and Brazil.
