Weather preparations

Whether tropical storm Julia reaches the East Pacific or dissipates in Central America, Honduras, or Guatemala, it is essential to prepare for the tropical storm. October is a month notorious for emerging Hurricanes.

Here are some important tropical storm and Hurricane reminders.

  1. Monitor the developments of the tropical storm and how your areas could be affected, from the tropical storm watch or warnings, local weather advisories, rising sea levels, and evacuations.
  2. Julia can unleash strong winds and heavy rains, although it has weakened to tropical storms. Houses are susceptible to damage from the storm. Check your home for possible damages and immediately repair it for the coming storm.
  3. If you have scheduled outdoor appointments, check road closures or better cancel your trip. Julia is capable of damaging trees and small flooding.
  4. It is best to charge your phone in case of an emergency fully. Having power banks will be useful.
  5. After the storm, check your home for damages. Be careful with the grounded or damaged electrical wires, outlets, and equipment. Call for a professional electrician if needed.
  6. Look for medical assistance if you or your family suffer from storm injuries.
  7. Operate your generator safely by keeping it away from your home. Storm-related deaths due to the improper use of generators result in carbon monoxide poisoning.
