Researchers assembled an amazing and largest compilation of high-precision galaxy distances, measuring the distances of 56,000 galaxies using eight different methods.

According to the study, a team of researchers assembled the amazing compilations called Cosmicflows-4. The scientists are:

  • The University of Hawaii at Manoa astronomers Brent Tully
  • The Institute for Astronomy Ehsan Kourkchi

Brent Tully explained that accurate tools helped the researchers measure the galaxy's distances, the universe's expansion rate, and then the time universe was said to be born.

The researcher added that astronomers were figuring out to measure the galaxies' distance since it is separated from the Milky Way.

According to NASA, Milky Way has hundreds of billion stars. Not only that, it has enough gas and dust to make more stars. Milky Way looks like a spiral shape.

NASA added that energies and vivid flares are at the Milky Way's spiral center, which scientists said is a massive black hole.

Moreover, the space administration explained that the neighboring galaxies greatly influence galaxies shapes.

According to the study, the newly published measurements show the researchers managed to derive the universe's expansion rate ( the Hubble Constant).

The study revealed the measurements:

  • A value of H0=75 kilometers per second per megaparsec (Mpc)
  • One megaparsec is 3.26 million light-years
  • About 1.5% statistical uncertainty

With different methods to measuregalaxies' distances, the study said that the researchers focused on their methods.

Additionally, the researchers included their material from the two methods, incorporating previous studies.

Cosmicflows-4 is also used to determine how galaxies move. The study emphasized that with the motion knowledge of galaxies, researchers can create and track orbits of galaxies followed from the start they formed.

Astrophysical Journal published the study, which is available to read in ScienceDaily.

Kinds of galaxies

According to the Hubble Space Telescope, galaxies are classified into three major categories.

  • Elliptical Galaxies - It accounts for one-third of galaxies containing little gas, dust, and old stars.
  • Spiral Galaxies- It looks like a flat galaxy with blue to white disks of stars. A Spiral galaxy is said to be active in forming stars.
  • Irregular Galaxies - It contains little dust.

NASA also said that galaxies could collide. It explained that the Milky Way is on a collision course with the Andromeda galaxy.

Andromeda is the nearest neighbor of the Milky Way.

Artemis Space Craft

Recently, NASA announced it canceled the much-awaited launch of the Artemis 1 spacecraft due to the threat of Hurricane Ian.

The spacecraft will embark on a journey traveling about 280,000 miles away from Earth, aiming to explore deep space.

Furthermore, the space craft is now at Kennedy Space Center. NASA said they would inspect the spacecraft and decide on the launch attempt.

On the other hand, the Orion space vehicle is the most powerful spacecraft for deep space exploration.
