The Doppler radar showed thunderstorms delivering heavy rain across the alerted area, prompting the flash flood warning to be issued. It has rained between one and two inches. 1 to 2 inches of rain are predicted to fall in an hour. In the warned area, additional precipitation of 1 to 2 inches is possible. Flash flooding is happening now or is predicted to start soon.

The announcement's main goal is to alert the general public to the dangers and possibility of a flash flood brought on by powerful thunderstorms.

Small streams and creeks, urban areas, streets, highways, and underpasses, as well as other low-lying and poorly drained areas, are all affected by the severe weather.

New Bedford, Fall River, Newport, Dartmouth, Bristol, Portsmouth, Fairhaven, Middletown, Tiverton, Westport, Jamestown, Acushnet, Freetown, Little Compton, and Prudence Island are a few places that are expected to experience flash flooding.

NWS is advising drivers to turn their vehicles around instead of traversing the said areas. The agency pointed out that turning around is better than drowning when encountering flooded roads. The majority of flood deaths, according to experts, happen in cars, What's Up Newp reports.
