According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 15,400 cases of monkeypox have been reported in the United States.
It is the highest of any country. California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, New York, and Illinois have reported the most cases.
Many cases of monkeypox
According to World Health Organization data, the United States also experienced the greatest spike in monkeypox illnesses over the last week of any country, as per US News.
According to the WHO, the number of reported new cases worldwide fell last week compared to the previous week.
The United States, Spain, Brazil, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, the Netherlands, Peru, and Portugal are the ten most affected countries.
Monkeypox is rated as a moderate global health risk by the WHO. In July, the epidemic was labeled a public health emergency of worldwide concern.
Monkeypox is primarily transmitted through close, physical contact between men who have intercourse with other men, but specialists caution that anybody can catch the virus.
Among the symptoms are a rash, fever, and headache.
The WHO is working to rename monkeypox to align the disease name with "best practices."
According to the WHO, the current best practice is to identify newly detected viruses, linked diseases, and virus variants to avoid offending any cultural, social, national, regional, professional, or ethnic groups and to limit any detrimental impact on trade, travel, tourism, or animal welfare.
Notably, attacks on monkeys have been documented in Brazil, prompting the WHO to issue a warning against injuring animals as a result of the illness.
However, the name derives from the virus's discovery in monkeys in a Danish laboratory in 1958, and it is found in a wide range of mammals, most notably rodents.

Reported in 50 states
Monkeypox has now been found in all 50 states, according to health officials, as per abc News.
On Monday, Wyoming became the final state to report a case of the disease.
The Wyoming Department of Health reported 1 adult male case in Laramie County, which contains Cheyenne.
Public health officials are currently collaborating with the positive individual to determine whether additional residents are at a higher risk of catching monkeypox due to potential direct contact.
Because monkeypox spreads through close, intimate contact, authorities do not feel the virus is now a greater worry for the local community or the majority of Wyoming residents, according to Wyoming Health Department state health officer and state epidemiologist Dr. Alexia Harrist.
According to CDC data, more than 14,100 infections have been detected across the US since the first case was declared in a Massachusetts patient in mid-May.
New York presently has the most illnesses with over 2,700, followed by California, Florida, Texas, and Georgia.
According to federal health officials, the daily number of recorded cases has climbed rapidly over the previous month, from 97 per day one month ago to more than 1,300 per day as of Aug. 10.
The majority of cases in this epidemic have happened during intimate skin-to-skin contact between males who have sex with men, a group that includes gay, bisexual, transgender, and nonbinary people.
The CDC has stated, however, that there is no evidence that monkeypox is a sexually transmitted illness and that anyone can become infected through close, continuous contact.
Two weeks ago, the United States The Department of Health and Human Services labeled the epidemic a public health emergency, which will aid in the distribution of treatments and vaccines, according to officials.
Public health experts recommended everyone who has been exposed to monkeypox or suspects they have been exposed get the Jynneos vaccine, which is authorized in the United States.
Smallpox and monkeypox are both approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
