Each year, crocodilians, like caimans, gators, and crocodiles kill hundreds of people. These formidable reptiles are also present in some areas of South America, Australia, Mexico, and the southern United States, while Africa and Asia account for the majority of these attacks.

A terrifying video shows a large crocodile in Mexico carrying a man's body through a lagoon.

Several frightened bystanders can be seen capturing the sight of the typically calm waters of Laguna del Carpintero in Tampico, Tamaulipas, according to a video shared by journalist Porfirio Ibarra, as per the New York Post.

As the enormous crocodile slowly glided by with a half-naked torso that is already missing his left lower arm and foot, one observer can be heard loudly exclaiminh in Spanish.

The unnamed man is slowly being carried face-down with the croc's teeth locked on his right shoulder and side of the head.

The fact that the reptile seems to be at least 3 times as large as its prey leads experts to believe it may be up to 18 feet long.

According to Ibarra, a local magazine editor who also works as a stringer for the Associated Press, the man is presumed to have entered the lagoon to go swimming and was then attacked by the animal.

Jorge Becerril, a different journalist who also posted the video, claimed that authorities took the man's remaining body parts from the water later and protected the crocodile.

It is strictly banned to swim in that lagoon, he wrote.

Photos of the crocodile's body being taken away and its jaws being tied shut were posted by Canal 13 Chiapas.

Surviving when encountering a crocodile

Giving the animals their own space and being cautious around any bodies of water where they may be living is the best way to keep them safe in their natural habitat.

If you fight back cleverly when being assaulted, you might be able to survive, as per Wikihow.

First, we need to know how to survive in crocodiles, recognize where crocodilians reside and avoid them. Avoiding encounters with crocodiles and alligators altogether is the only surefire way to survive one. Know where crocodilians live and stay away from them.

Also, always be conscious of your surroundings. If you must be on or close to water where crocodilians reside, exercise extreme caution. Keep in mind that crocodilians are skilled at hiding, and even a large crocodile may only protrude its nose over the water.

Next is, take your dog for a walk away from alligator and crocodile habitats. Small animals' sounds and movements attract crocodilians, and American alligators are said to like devouring dogs.

If you do take your dog for a stroll close to the water, put them on a leash and keep an eye out for any activity in or close to the water.

Another one is never provide food to crocodiles or alligators. These animals are taught to become less wary of people and to link people with food through feeding.

Never actively feed them and take care not to accidentally feed them by discarding fish scraps and other edible waste into the water.

And lastly, make sure to set up your camp far from the water if you're going to be camping in crocodile or alligator territory. Pitch your tent at least 50 meters (164 feet) away from the water's edge, at least 2 meters (6 feet) above high water.

Check the area to make absolutely sure that no food or trash that would draw crocodilians to your location has been left out by prior campers, and clean up any that you uncover.
