Temperatures will gradually begin to cool off from the north-west through this week after weeks of extreme heat and wildfires across Europe, with daily highs in the 30s in central and southern regions and frequent highs near 40 degrees Celsius (104F).
In this region of the continent, where it is now still dry and bright with temperatures reaching the upper 30s in several cities, the sweltering heat will be pushed towards this region on Wednesday, according to BBC Weather forecaster Darren Bett.
The most recent weather maps indicate sweltering heat in Budapest, Romania, at 32 degrees, 38 degrees in Bucharest, Bulgaria, 39 degrees in Nicosia, Cyprus, and 36 degrees in Athens.
Heavy rainfall in Europe
With the exception of certain regions of Spain, which may retain the heat without much respite, the jet stream will meander southward, pushing the heat plume away to the south and west and bringing conditions considerably closer to or below average, as per The Guardian.
Over the last week, heat has been experienced everywhere, not just in Europe.
A persistent region of high pressure over the central and southern sections of the US has allowed a plume of hot upper air to lie nearly immobile.
Temperatures in the Pacific Northwest will increase as the week goes on, reaching a high by the middle of the week when 100F (37.8C) temperatures are predicted to be widespread across western states up to Washington.
The northwestern US will see temperatures that are 7C higher than normal for the season.
The heat will also affect Western Canada, where Vancouver, British Columbia, is predicted to approach close to its all-time high of 34.4C (93.9F), set in 2009.
The US's central regions are likely to see just a brief reprieve before the heat returns.
The high heat will persist in the Pacific Northwest for the whole of this week but is forecast to move eastward once more into the next week.
Still, it will be a fine weather
Although it will continue to be dry in the UK and in northwest Europe, Thursday's weather is more likely to be wetter in the northern portions of Scandinavia, as per Express.
Rain, which might get thundery near the Alps and towards Bulgaria and Romania, is expected to strike the Baltic nations.
The highs on Wednesday will be somewhat below average, with 36C in Madrid, 35C in Athens, 33C in Bucharest, 31C in Roma, and 29C in Barcelona.
The hot weather will continue in Athens, which is excellent news for tourists visiting at the height of summer, while southeast Europe's temperatures will begin to rise as showers move away from Sofia, Bulgaria.
With temperatures in the early 30s in the French capital this weekend, many other major European cities, including London, Paris, and Berlin, will also continue to see pleasant weather.
"Still dry throughout Greece and seems like it will be dry, hot, and sunny in Athens for the outlook," the forecaster stated.
Although just about 20C in Helsinki, the temperatures will climb when the rains leave Sofia.
While temperatures in Madrid don't change considerably, they are warmer than that in Berlin, as well as temporarily in London and Paris.
