When it comes to that incredibly special wedding or engagement ring, diamonds are a girl's best friend, or so the lyrics of a famous song once said. Sometimes the ring is even more important than how the other person proposed and gets a lot of hype. Most women are looking for diamonds on their engagement ring and it is something that they will look to show off to their friends and family. There is a misconception that diamonds are awfully expensive. Yes, they can be, but that depends on the overall package in terms of the type of diamond and whether it is connected to a gold or silver ring. Here are some things to bear in mind in terms of diamond engagement rings.

The four C rule

There are four "C's" that should be considered when purchasing a diamond engagement ring and these include color, cut, clarity and carat - so what does this mean? Well, the color is self-explanatory, the cut is the type of diamond and how it is cut, the clarity is the look and feel and the carat is what costs all the money! The diverse types of carats will have a significant impact on the overall costs.

Ring Size

When going down on one knee and doing the special proposal, it is really important to actually have the ring size correct. If this is wrong, then it could put a bit of a spoiler on the occasion. If you do not know the ring size of your partner, then the best way is to try and get it out of them in conversation or asking one of their close friends or family. Alternatively, if you manage to get your hands on any of the other rings that they have, you can take them to the shop yourself and ask them to measure it. Sometimes, you won't get a "perfect fit" and someone's fingers could be between sizes. In this case it is wiser to go on the more plus side rather than the tight side to ensure that it is still comfortable.

Return to Vendor

It is still an unfortunate fact that a lot of engagements and weddings do not go far and there is a high level of divorce. If you are spending thousands on an engagement ring, you may wish to explore the option of what happens if she says no? Will the store take the ring back or will this need to be traded? This can be exceedingly difficult as whatever your requirements are, you may have had the diamond ring made specifically for the occasion which would put more cost into the ring but more uniqueness. With this in mind, it is therefore unlikely that the store will take the ring back at all at the price you bought it from. Although this is a difficult conversation, make sure you at least get the feedback from the store on what would happen in this unlikely event.

If you follow this guide, hopefully you will land on a ring that the future Mrs will treasure forever.
