Changing weather patterns have been occurring in different regions of the United States over the past several weeks. Such alteration is evident after the National Weather Service (NWS) on Sunday, July 4, issued its latest multi-weather forecast for heat wave, severe storm, and flooding this week.
The multi-faceted weather advisory indicates hot temperatures are expected to pummel the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and south-central US. The intense heat will be followed by a heat wave set to build across the Pacific Northwest. Flooding due to heavy rain is also anticipated in the Four Corners region and Ohio Valley in the coming days.
Some of the immediate weather hazards are likely to occur in the form of severe storms in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic from Monday, July 25. Damaging winds, large hail, torrential rain, and isolated tornadoes are associated with the storms, as it has been seen in the past.
The imminent threat poses life-threatening risks and disruption to travel and businesses, with US weather authorities urging the public to monitor local weather reports and exercise precaution, including following local authorities.
Multi-Weather Forecast
The NWS' Weather Prediction Center (WPC) on Sunday issued its short-range forecast for this week, which is valid from until Wednesday, July 27. However, the forecast is subject to revisions or update as the US weather agency regularly updates its forecasts.
The short-range outlook suggests that an excessive heat will continue across some parts of the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley until Tuesday, 26 July. Meanwhile, it also shows potential severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall in areas from the Middle Mississippi Valley to the Northeast.
The following areas and states are currently under excessive heat watches, heat warnings, and heat advisories:
- Eastern Kansas
- Oklahoma
- Southern Missouri
- Northern Kansas
- Washington
- Oregon
The WPC also retains its forecast for the ongoing monsoonal moisture with heavy rain and isolated flash flooding across the Southwest US and Southern Rockies until Tuesday.

Northern Hemisphere Heat Wave
The forecast comes as an unprecedented heat wave has ravaged some parts of the Northern Hemisphere, including the United States, Greenland, and Europe. The extreme weather event has led to an unspecified number of heat-related human casualties, glacial melting, wildfires, and dry conditions
In the US, over 90 million Americans have endured unexpected high temperatures due to the persistent heat wave from the mid-South to the Northeast, according to a warning by the NWS, as cited by CNN. People will feel the deadly heat as it will travel across the southern Plains to the US Coast.
In particular, the NWS said the oppressive heat will affect areas of between Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston.
