According to data from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the Dallas-Fort Worth area has already experienced more days with temperatures above 100 degrees than in the previous three years.
The region is on track to experience the most 100-degree days in a year since 2013, with the oppressive heat forecast to last at least another week.
While most Texans are accustomed to summer heat, 2022 has had an unusually high number of baking days.
100-Degree Days Per Year
According to the weather service, Dallas-Fort Worth has experienced 100-degree weather for 18 straight days.
Over the past ten years, Dallas has experienced between 10 and 20 days with temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit on average. Less than 15 days in the last three years have reached 100 degrees.
The highest number of 100-degree days in a year was recorded in 2011 when there were 71 days of triple-digit temperatures.
The previous record was set in the year 1980, when there were 69 days.
In 2012 it set the previous ten-year record with 34 days, according to records.
100-Degree Dates
The first time 100-degree weather was recorded was on March 9, 1911. The most recent first occurred on August 23, 1989. No days reached 100 degrees in either 1906 or 1973.
The first day of 100 degrees in the area occurred on June 11 of 2022, which is earlier than in 2010, when it happened on June 5.
Dallas Summer Record Highs
According to weather service records, the highest summertime temperature ever was on June 27, 1980, when it reached 113 degrees.
The summertime highs have varied between 102 and 110 degrees over the past ten years.
The high temperature for the summer of 2020 was 106 degrees, which was reached on July 8; 109 degrees, in 2018, set the record for the ten most recent summers.

Dallas Record for Consecutive 100-Degree Days
According to data from the weather service, Monday was the eighth day in a row this year where the temperature reached 100 degrees or higher.
The area is expected to experience temperatures of 100 degrees or higher through at least July 19.
If it does, Dallas-Fort Worth will be very close to the records currently held by the city for the longest period of oppressive heat in a year.
The year 1980 saw the most days with temperatures above 100 degrees, with 42 consecutive days being recorded.
In 2011, there were 40 days, and in 1998, there were 29 days, The Dallas Morning News reported.
In both 1978 and 2010, there were 18 straight days with temperatures above 100 degrees, and there were 19 such days in 2006.
Incoming 100-Degree Days for Dallas
According to forecast data from The Weather Channel, Dallas is going to face the following days with temperature highs of 103 to 105 degrees daily.
A heat advisory that started on July 6 is posted on AccuWeather's website.
The alert is forecasted to extend until July 13. Everyone is encouraged to practice caution as the ongoing high temperatures may cause health risks.
The air quality alert level is "poor" in the area that will also extend on the same day, starting on July 8.
