New York City will get a muggy Friday night as things are heating up. The city is experiencing scorching sunshine as the holiday weekend approaches. With temperatures rising into the low 90s and feeling more like the middle 90s in the afternoon, today will be the hottest day of this stretch. As the day progresses, expect to see more clouds mixed in with the ample sunshine. By late afternoon, a stray shower or thunderstorm is possible, especially to the west.

Beach Fun Reminders

With temperatures in the 80s for the Jersey Shore and just the 70s for the south shore with winds off the water, those who have planned some beach fun will find some solace.

Similar to this, beachgoers are advised to exercise proper caution when entering the water due to the low risk of rip currents.

Additionally, experts are urging everyone to use sunscreen and to reapply some of the products every 20 minutes or less.

Friday Night and Into the Weekend

As a front slowly moves in, a better chance of some showers and thunderstorms increases Friday night. Lows in the low 70s will make for a very humid night in NYC.

Although it won't rain all day on Saturday, rounds of showers and storms are likely. A few strong to severe storms are also possible as the evening progresses. The main dangers would be strong winds and torrential rain.

The front moves just south of New York City by Sunday. The afternoon is looking much better after a morning with a chance of a prolonged shower. Also, the humidity will be noticeably lower. A spotty afternoon storm cannot be completely ruled out at this time, but other than that, it appears to be a nice mix of sun and clouds. With partly sunny skies, the Fourth of July holiday itself should be wonderful. Through the weekend, temperatures will be in the 80s, CBS New York reports.
