Thunderstorms are threatening areas from Texas to Missouri with massive flooding next week, according to the latest weather forecast.
A jet stream from the severe weather is expected to cause heavy rain in the affected areas, wherein some have experienced a surge of heat in recent days.
As the United States heads toward the end of its spring season, the upcoming adverse weather can produce normal to severe thunderstorms, placing some regions under wet weather once again.
Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes also pose severe storm weather hazards.
Thunderstorm Forecast
AccuWeather meteorologists on Saturday, May 21, predicted the return of wet weather due to the pattern made by the said weather phenomena for the thunderstorm forecast next week.
In particular, the combination of humid, hot, and cold air will be a recipe for the formation of severe thunderstorms starting Monday, May 23.
In addition, multiple storms are expected to plummet the southern Plains, which includes rain showers and thunderstorms from Texas to Missouri, from Monday to Wednesday, May 25.
Meanwhile, other hotspot areas for the severe storms include Oklahoma City and Woodward, Oklahoma, as well as western and central Texas to the Mexican border.
Potential intense downpours and hail inside thunderstorms are expected later on Monday, says the weather forecasting company.
Storm Risks and Disruption
Aside from the mentioned weather hazards, AccuWeather has provided the following storm risks and possible disruption brought by the upcoming severe thunderstorms and heavy rain:
- Blowing dust
- Travel delays
- Travel disruptions
- Damaging wind gusts
- Prolonged torrential rain
- Flash flooding
Based on early indicators, the severe weather forecast also placed several communities from Dallas and Houston, Texas; to Shreveport, Louisiana; and Little Rock, Arkansas, to experience the heaviest rainfall, which can occur for several days.
Hot Weather Before the Storm
Texas and its surrounding areas have experienced a surge of warmth recently with temperatures reaching up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Although the change of weather is imminent, heavy rain can be beneficial to deviate from the hot weather.
The New York Times reported that summer-like heat due to unusually warm weather was recorded from Texas to the Northeast this weekend, shattering daily record highs for years or decades.
The hot weather in the Northeast was previously forecasted by AccuWeather, along with related readings by the National Weather Service (NWS) of a heat wave for the East Coast.
Prior to the storm, widespread extreme heat has also placed more than 35 million Americans under a heat advisory from Saturday to Sunday, May 22.
This comes as record-breaking temperatures were reported from Virginia to New Hampshire, according to CNN.
On Friday, May 20, the NWS office in Boston said the high temperatures from the mid to the upper 90s may reach record highs for the day and throughout May; forecasting Boston, Massachusetts to experience 96 degrees on Sunday.
With the mentioned areas affected by the heat wave and warm weather, a change of weather is also possible in the Northeast and East Coast next week due to the forecasted thunderstorms affecting areas from Texas to Missouri.
