Friday brought torrential rain to Chicago before milder weather arrived just in time for the weekend.
As the storms poured over an inch of rain on portions of the city and suburbs, there were reports of minor flooding in Franklin Park.
This afternoon's heavy downpours might deliver 1 to 3 inches of rain, which would be disastrous for the afternoon rush hour.
Today will also bring high winds as a low-pressure system moves overhead.
Heavy rain in Chicago
Showers will continue through Friday evening in the northern section of our area before clearing off overnight.
While temperatures in the Chicago region fluctuated from the mid-40s to the mid-60s on Friday, temperatures will rise into the low 60s before dawn, according to Mowry.
Saturday will be sunny and windy, with highs in the low 80s. During the day, wind gusts of up to 40 mph are possible.
The warm weather will continue on Sunday, but there may be showers and storms, primarily in the morning and early afternoon. Highs will be in the 70s, as per abc7.
Several forecasts have been issued in recent weeks and days, providing insight into what to anticipate in the following months.
While projections this far ahead are sometimes incorrect, they are mostly based on prior year's trends.
According to the most recent long-term forecasts, temperatures will remain warm, although some areas may have above-average precipitation.
On Thursday, the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center issued its most recent three-month forecast for May through July, indicating an equal likelihood of above or below-average temperatures throughout most of the Midwest.
Meanwhile, the Southwest and sections of the Northeast may have above-average temperatures, according to the forecast.
The forecast also suggests that much of Illinois will get ordinary to slightly above-average precipitation.
The Weather Channel issued its own forecast earlier this month, predicting that temperatures will be near-average or slightly milder over the Midwest in May, but that by August, "above-average warmth will move into sections of the Midwest and Northeast."

Chicago cubs pushed back the game on Friday
Mother Nature has influenced the start time of a Cubs game for the second time this week.
On Friday, the Pirates-Cubs game at Wrigley Field was initially set for 1:20 p.m, as per NBC5.
Due to rain in the afternoon forecast, the first pitch has been rescheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The first pitch for Wednesday's series finale between the Rays and the Cubs was moved forward 70 minutes owing to rain in the forecast.
Due to rain, the game was called after 5 1/2 innings, with the Rays winning 8-2.
Pittsburgh won the first game of this weekend's four-game series 4-3 on Thursday.
Drew Smyly is the Cubs' likely starter, while ex-Cub José Quintana is scheduled to pitch for the Pirates on Friday.
This season, Smyly has not allowed a run in two starts (9 2/3 innings).
In his season debut against the Pirates on April 12, he was given three hits in five shutout innings.
