Winter Storm to Arrive Midwest, Northeast After Quick-hitting Snowfalls

Winter Storm is Likely to Arrive Midwest, Northeast

Two fast-moving Alberta clippers may sweep through the region this week before a larger winter storm arrives by the weekend.

In general, the clipper storms will bring a few inches of snow to some areas, but forecasters are keeping an eye out for the caboose storm, which might bring a few inches of snow along with it at the middle of the week, as per AccuWeather.

Storm track clippers, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Matt Benz, will deliver a brief burst of precipitation.

During Monday's first clipper storm crossing the Canada-United States border, light snowfall was reported in the upper Great Lakes region. As the system moved eastward on Tuesday morning, rain and snow showers blanketed New York and New England.

During the afternoon of Tuesday, rain showers were reported across sections of Pennsylvania and Ohio, further south.

Next week, a second clipper will begin to move southeastward across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest before making its way into the Northeast late Wednesday or early Thursday morning.

Some 2 to 3 inches of snow is forecast to fall as each storm moves through the northern hemisphere. This is enough to make roads slick and impair vision for drivers, but long-term problems are unlikely, Courtney Travis, a senior AccuWeather meteorologist, remarked.

Areas to See Accumulating Snow

For motorists, Wednesday night's second clipper of the week could be most dangerous when it brings snow to the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast.

There is a good probability that parts of New York and New England may have 1-3 inches of snowfall, with pockets of heavier accumulations in the mountains of the interior, according to Yahoo News.

Intense snowfall and total whiteout conditions were the result of Sunday's snow squalls in this region. This week's clipper show in the Great Lakes and Northeast is predicted to come to an end, according to Travis.

Possible Travel Delays

Next up for the Central states, forecasters will be keeping a look out for a storm that might bring spring weather hazards like increased fire risk, flooding and severe weather to portions of the South as well as winter-related problems in northern regions of America.

According to AccuWeather's long-range forecasters, an ice storm will form over the Great Lakes and move into the Northeast late Friday or early Saturday. Accumulating snow, some of which can be heavy, is expected to fall to the north and west of the ice.

According to experts, travel delays are expected to increase in the Central and Eastern states through the first week of March as more information becomes available in the following days.
