Flash Flooding Hits Australia, One Dead After Getting Trapped in Submerged Car

One person died in a submerged car and ten more people were confirmed missing after torrential rain that caused flash flooding hit eastern Australia.

According to Phys.org, the body of the dead 60-year-old was discovered in a submerged vehicle early Wednesday. This incident occurred in the state of Queensland, premier Annastacia.

An emergency call of a submerged Honda CRV came about 4:45 am, but due to the intensity of the flood, the rescue team was unable to get to the vehicle in time.

Also, within the town of Gympie, there was a train accident. According to the local respondent, the train driver was said to have just minor injuries. Still, about ten passengers from the train were confirmed missing by the Sunshine Coast Police District Superintendent Craig Hawkins.

"We are searching for some people at the moment, particularly again around that Belli Park area," he said.

Flooding Prompted Multiple Road Closures

From the current reports gathered, the flood has risen to half a meter (1.5 feet) in some parts of the states. The disaster has affected movement as the flood has led to road closures and transport chaos within the state.

Emergency services are on high alert, and swift water rescue crews are trying hard to save residents stranded due to the flood.

About 23 were rescued by the Swiftwater rescue teams in the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions following twelve hours of intense rainfall.

About forty children were also evacuated from the childcare center in Marrickville, in Sydney's inner west after several emergency calls from the center, plus so many other rescues.

Palaszczuk said: "This has the potential to be a significant rainfall event for south-east Queensland. Locally intense rainfall is possible, and since many catchments are now saturated, there is an increased risk of dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding over the coming days," according to Gulf News.

Motorists Urged to Stay at Home

Motorists were advised to stay at home as the roads and bridge are the primary danger zones to these floods.

"Flash flooding is occurring on roads and bridges - Re-consider your need to travel today," police told residents.

According to the country's Bureau of Meteorology, the La Nina weather pattern increases the chances of tropical cyclones off Australia's Pacific coast.

Although these downpours might have ended the several years of drought and climate-worsened bushfires, the current damages caused by this disaster is quite disheartening as Emergency services and rescue teams are working hard to prevent more loss of lives with more rainy days still on the way.
