On Thursday night, a possible tornado struck central Alabama as a major storm fell trees and thousands were left without electricity.
Forecasters predict that a larger storm will hit the Northeast close to the end of this week. As a result of Winter Storm Miles, New York City will be subjected to a variety of weather conditions.
Areas to Experience Rainfall
Accuweather has issued a wind advisory for Long Island for Friday. Heavy rain may fall on New York and New Jersey in the near future. There is a chance of freezing rain in Western New York, as per Fox News.
Nearly a hundred thousand customers in the Northeast are still without power as of Friday morning. In the Birmingham district of Leeds, a tree fell on a mobile home while a couple was inside, according to reports.
On Thursday, February 17th, 2022, in Leeds, Alabama, emergency services examined a damaged mobile home following a probable tornado blow through. Chris McClendon, a local resident, says he arrived home to see a tree on his neighbor's mobile home.
By the time McClendon had gotten out of the truck, McClendon heard a woman scream for aid. McClendon said he was able to assist the woman's husband in getting her out of the house with their support.
There were reports of damage in the neighborhood, but no significant casualties were recorded, Mayor David Miller said. It has been announced that crews from the Birmingham-area National Weather Service would be on the scene Friday to assess the damage.

Flash Flood Warnings Issued in Central Alabama
From Louisiana to New England, a storm system has formed as of Thursday night. Isolated areas of potential flooding supplied by violent thunderstorms as the storm moved east accompanied the storm's extreme weather, according to CNN.
However, the northern extremities of the warm moist air meeting with cooler air pose a greater risk of flooding.
In Alabama, flash flood warnings were in effect, as well as flood warnings in parts of Illinois and New York. From Oklahoma to Michigan, a small band of snow fell on the system's cold side.
As the system passed through, a thick band of snow blanketed Chicago, resulting in 4.5-inch snowfall totals.
Travel Disruption Due to Snow, Ice
As of February 17, Kansas City had received an inch more snow than it had in 1893, the previous record-setting day. Other parts of the state received up to 10 inches of rain.
It is not just the Midwest that's affected. As the cold air moves in from the north, rain will give way to snow as it reaches Maine. Over 1,500 miles of winter storm warnings and advisories have been issued, ranging from western Oklahoma to northern Maine, according to the prediction center.
According to flight tracking website FlightAware, airlines have canceled over 1,300 flights involving US arrivals or departures this week.
More than 140 flights out of the Detroit Metro and Kansas City airports were canceled, according to FlightAware. St. Louis Lambert International Airport had to cancel one-fourth of its scheduled departures due to weather.
As a result of the snow and ice that blanketed the Chicago area, hundreds of flights had to be canceled. Over 260 flights were canceled at Chicago O'Hare (24 percent of the schedule) and over 81 flights were canceled at Chicago Midway (31 percent of the schedule).
