Today marks the end of a major winter storm that affected a vast portion of the eastern United States. Authorities in Pickens, South Carolina have released bodycam footage of their officers arresting "Elsa the Snow Queen" as the snow progressively exits the northeast.
Winter Storm in the US
As of 10 a.m. on Monday, more than 20 inches of snow had fallen along the east coast of the United States during the most recent winter storm, according to the National Weather Service.
A tornado outbreak occurred in southwest Florida as a result of the winter storm, as per Weather Boy.
As much snow fell in the northeast, the southeast also saw a lot of it. Georgia received 10 inches of rain, while Mississippi received 9 inches. 11.2 inches of snow fell in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, according to the National Weather Service. Travelers Rest, South Carolina, received 9.5 inches of snow.
'Elsa the Snow Queen' was arrested in Pickens, South Carolina, and a bodycam video of them arresting her was published on Sunday. The Pickens Police Department reported in a statement that she was captured after a short foot chase and no one was wounded or seriously frozen.
A statement from the Pickens Police Department said, "She was detained after a short foot chase and no one was injured or severely frozen. Her accomplice, the abominable snowman, is still at large. He has unleashed more snow and ice. Help us find him. Please be safe on the road if you have to drive. Big thank you to "Elsa" for stopping by the Department."
Travel Disruption Due to the Storm
Elsa is a fictional character from the animated films "Frozen" and "Frozen II," both of which were produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Frozen's Elsa is based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale figure "The Snow Queen," and she possesses the magical ability to generate and manipulate ice and snow.
A major hurricane hit the east coast of the United States despite Pickens Police Department's good time. According to FlightAware, more than 1,300 flights in the United States were canceled and another 600 were delayed as a result of the storm.
In the Carolinas, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, hundreds of thousands were left without electricity. Two people died in North Carolina as a result of the storm. In Florida, 31 homes were destroyed and 51 were severely damaged by tornadoes caused by the winter storm.
Areas to Experience Snow
There will be an Arctic air invasion this week, bringing cold air and an approaching atmospheric disturbance from the north, increasing the likelihood of a snow storm in the eastern United States by the end of the week.
Fair weather is forecast to move in behind the older winter storm that dumped over 20 inches of snow in areas of the northeast. High pressure over the Upper Mississippi River Valley is expected to move east by Thursday night and affect the Mid-Atlantic over the weekend.
Mid-Atlantic residents should expect subzero temperatures and a slight chance of light snow as a result of this rapidly moving Arctic air mass.
This air mass will bring some of its lowest temperatures to New England and the Mid-Atlantic region on Thursday night and Friday night. It's possible that a little snow event could occur across parts of the Mid-Atlantic as the cold air moves in.
It's possible that the Canadian Prairies' northern stream energy will interact with moisture and energy building in the southern stream over the southeastern United States later this week. The East Coast of the United States might be hit by another winter storm if all of these factors come together.
