Earlier this week, portions of mid-Atlantic's Interstate-95 corridor faced a travel nightmare and now another round of snowy weather is causing problems on the East Coast, beginning Wednesday morning.
Temperatures plummeted over the region early Wednesday morning, resulting in freezing rain and hazardous patches along the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to New York City.
Accidents Due to Slippery Roads
According to Philadelphia fire officials, a crash that took place on the Passyunk Avenue Bridge in South Philadelphia involved up to 20 vehicles. There were no reports of injuries as of 7 a.m. on Wednesday, but the bridge remained closed, according to Accuweather.
Close to the Philadelphia Zoo and on I-76 eastbound near Roosevelt Boulevard, four vehicles were involved in an accident.
"With air temperatures across the region Wednesday morning starting near freezing, bridges and overpasses will be the most susceptible areas for icy spots on the roads," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bill Deger.
Residents of New Jersey should Stay off the roads if they can, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy tweeted. According to News 12's Tony Caputo, slippery road conditions were to blame for a deadly accident on Route 34 in Middlesex County.
Between 4am and 12:45pm on Wednesday, NJ.com reported that the New Jersey State Police attended to more than 250 accidents.
The sheriff's office in Monmouth County, New Jersey, acknowledged that an icy weather-caused multi-vehicle accident resulted in casualties.
On the Cross County Parkway/Bronx River Parkway connector ramp, one individual was killed in an accident, according to Westchester County Police. Because of the ongoing investigation into the accident, the ramp was closed.

Travelers Are the Most Affected
At least three hours was spent by coaches and athletes in traffic in New Jersey on Wednesday, according to New York Giants coach Joe Judge.
Karen Stewart, a traffic anchor for New York City's 1010WINS radio station, described Newark as "a skating rink" on Wednesday.
At 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a ground stop at Newark Airport was attributed to subzero temperatures. There were flight delays of at least an hour at Newark and up to three hours at La Guardia airports.
According to ABC7 in New York, two Newark police officers were hurt while directing traffic during the Raymond Boulevard closure. With injuries described as "severe," the two were transferred to University Hospital in Newark and are currently in stable condition.
Areas to Experience Another Round of Wintry Weather
As the morning proceeded, the freezing rain moved northeastward into parts of the state. After several spinouts in the Hartford area on Wednesday morning, part of Route 9 was shut down, according to the Connecticut State Police. Due to the icy roadways, state police urged the people to slow down.
An ice taxiway at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire led to a FedEx plane slipped on Wednesday morning, CBS Boston reported. Although no one was hurt, the plane was damaged enough that it had to be hauled away for further assessment.
Once the air and road temperatures reach above freezing, the possibility of widespread icy travel will be eliminated. Afternoon highs will be in the lower to middle 40s at places from Philadelphia to New York City, according to forecasts.
This region is expected to be hit by yet another round of wintry weather on Thursday and Friday, which is likely to cause yet another round of travel issues.
