Christmas Winter Storm Causes 20-Car Pileup and Closure of Key Highways in Nevada

A white-out on the periphery of Reno and a 20-car sudden increase through the whole weekend occurred, after massive snow hurricanes and blizzard conditions shut down main roads in Northern California and Nevada.

The State Police Command asserted on Sunday that car owners had mentioned heavy snow and prompted residents to remain in their residence.

Christmas Snow Storm Resulted to Road Closures

Meanwhile, analysts have advised to cut trips in Sierra Nevada Mountain due to the closure of a 70-mile interstate highway 80 from Colfax, California, along Lake Tahoe territory to the Nevada boundary on Sunday.

"Local authorities, along with WCSO Patrol Officers, are responding to a 20-car pileup on southbound 395 in Washoe Valley," the sheriff tweeted.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph were listed in the zone, and US Route 395 near Lake Tahoe was shutdown.

Truckee Meadows Emergency crews, one of several rescue services, told reporters that constraints in the area were drastic, and that six individuals had been shuttled to medical centers as a result of the pile-up while those who were not harmed were held to neighboring dwellings.

The California Ministry of Transport also locked many highland pathways, alerting car owners of heavy fog and slick constraints.

Afterwards, the sheriff's office announced that US Highway 50 had been shuttered, and that officials will further evaluate it on Monday morning.

The snowstorm was confirmed after rainfalls and torrential downpours caused electrical wires to crack and roadways to overflow in Southern California during the weekend.

Nevada Experienced Heavy Snow Over The Weekend

Stormy weather induced rockfalls that shut down more than 40 miles of coastline 1 in the Big Sur area south of San Francisco.

There is no timetable for resuming the picturesque stretch, which is commonly closed due to rain.

"Winter weather will be intense once more later on early Monday as another hurricane presses in the territory," the weather service said in a tweet.

The National Weather Service has released a snowstorm notifying for stronger Lake Tahoe until 1 a.m. Tuesday due to the possibility of pervasive blizzard scenarios and air currents of up to 45 mph.

The recent string of blustery hurricanes pounded Southern California with intense torrential rain, flooding roadways and knocking down the network, later in Saturday.

Moreover, according to local fire authorities, two separate other pileup accidents occurred from both parties of the Bowers Mansion roadways.

"When area routes resume, anticipate long waits and Christmas traffic situations, though circumstances should already improve by Tuesday," authorities said.

On Friday night, media networks have reported 20 inches of snow at Homewood on Lake Tahoe's western coast, 10 inches at Mount Rose ski area on Reno's southwest rim, and over a foot at NorthStar close Truckee.

The NWS Reno also encouraged people to remain at home late Sunday and warned them about dangerous driving conditions.

"If you also have the pleasure of staying at home currently and just not simply driving, reap the benefits of it."

"At the department, the breeze is going at least to 52 mph with an air temperature of 6 degrees. It's extremely icy outside, making driving extremely hazardous. Keep yourself secure! " it stated.
