How to Survive in RUST

We all love intense survival games that bring a decent challenge to the table.  One title in this genre is the game from Facepunch Studios, Rust. Released for early access on December 11, 2013, with a full release in February 2018, the game is a multiplayer-only survival game, based around the "stranded on an island, hunter-gatherer" concept. However, this game is no easy feat. With only players scattered across the entire map spawning continuously, the game and its players show no mercy. So how does one manage to survive in the game and establish a strong position in it? That is what we will be looking into today, to ensure that you get a head-start on other players and stay a step ahead as you join the playing field.

There are a few points that you would need to keep in mind. Some of these may seem general knowledge for most gamers but hold far more important value in terms of Rust gameplay. So let's get started with them.

1. Do not trust other players

Whether you're a new player to the game or have been playing the game for quite a while, a key rule is to watch your back against other players. This includes passive players you meet online. Players have been known to take advantage of rookie and new players. Often players will claim to be new to the games, asking to be shown the ropes of the game, only to ambush an unsuspecting player and steal their items. Over the years, this behavior from other players has led to trust issues between gamers, and players have to keep a sharp eye out for everyone around them.

2. Be quick at collecting resources

When you're entering the game, make sure to grab a hold of all the resources you can find and deem necessary as quickly as possible. Use those resources to develop quick tools and a makeshift house, until you find more resources to build a better abode for yourself and your supplies. If you slow down on getting the basics done, you'll be prone to get killed by any hostile players around. Having tools and basic weapons ready increases your chances in case of any unfortunate encounters, and sooner or later you would have to make tools and faceoff against other players.

3. Establish a base at a strategic point

Establishing a base early is one thing. However, later on in the game as you progress, you should find a strategically beneficial spot to establish a base. A spot that is clear of the open to avoid unnecessary intrusion and excessive raids from other players sounds like the ideal spot to build a base. The base should also be ideally located in places where the player can recollect resources, such as food, water, and wood. Keep in mind that the game does not allow you to drink sea water for obvious reasons, so it may not be the best idea to build a base next to the shore.

4. Fortify your base

Even if your base is built in a safe spot, it is bound to get raiders once in a while. You need to fortify your base with countermeasures to prevent it from getting raided. Rust offers a lot of options that can be used as defenses on both the internal and external parts of your house. These include various traps and tricks that can be set up to prevent enemies from proceeding into your base. Moreover, you can find ways to engineer traps rooms and mazes, which will help you keep your valuables safe. The base itself should be double door-ed with anything but wooden doors, to help protect it from being broken down by using simple tools.

5. Safely store away resources

Its' never a good idea to go out foraging for resources or getting down to battle players with all your resources and items stacked up with you. A player should only carry bare necessities and essentials with them, and leave the rest meant for later behind in storage chests. This ensures that if a player were to lose at the hands of another player or any other cause, they will still have a lot of items safely stacked away with a hundred percent chance of recovery. Valuables and rare items should also be stored away unless intended to be used in the current scenario.

6. Safety in numbers

The reason we did not mention this earlier is that many players rather not do this. With Rust being an open-playing field with no restrictions on teaming up, players should use the lack of these restrictions and regulations as an advantage. Players can play solo and team-up however they want, with whomever they want, on the same playing field. Therefore, it is often best to play with a group of friends that you are familiar with. Staying together with friends adds up to the advantage of safety in numbers against an intruder or invader that may try to attack you or steal your resources. It also makes it easier to go out exploring into the wilderness to gather resources and set up a new base. Together with teammates you can also raid and attack hostile players and defeat them without the risk of casualties on your end.
