Did you know that 4 out of 5 people are terrified of snakes? These people have what we call as Ophidiophobia (the fear of snakes). And we also know that a snake bite could potentially kill you. Well in fact, over 138,000 snake bite deaths are tallied every year.
Apparently we need to know which snakes should be avoided and these snakes' behaviours. Listed below are the terrifying snakes all around the world and the things we need to be mindful for about them.
The most terrifying snakes around the globe
1. Cuban Boa
Commonly located at the wilderness of Cuba, most specifically deep dark caves. The Cuban Boa preys mostly on bats and these species of snakes hunt by packs. This species reaches maturation for breeding at 3 years old for males, and 5 years old for females.
2. Flying Snake
Yes you heard me right, flying Snakes. These kind of snakes are most commonly found in Southeast Asia. The five known species of Flying Snakes don't actually fly, per se, but instead they climb trees in order to escape predators.
They commonly rely on the gust of wind that potentially make them "fly". These snakes aren't deadly to humans but they are venomous. Their fangs are very small but their "flying" scares a lot of people.
3. Iranian Spider-Tailed Viper
These are commonly located on the deserts of Iran. A bite from this snake would probably cause more heart attacks than cholesterol and could potentially lead to death.
A very unique feature of this terrifying snake is their spider-like tail. Their favorite preys would be birds, usually warblers. Their attacks are fast and they like to camouflage among the rocks. Don't get fooled by this terrifying snake.
4. Black Mamba
This snake can grow up to 14 feet long. These snakes are typically brown, but the black part on its name are referring to the inside of their mouths, which will be the last thing you'll probably see. The black mamba venom is super-potent and can kill within 20 minutes if not treated immediately. Their attacks are fast, reaching 12 miles an hour.
How to deal with snake encounters
Let us be mindful of these snakes that could potentially end our lives. We are currently facing multiple venomous, and even though we have developed a few vaccines and anti venoms; we never really know when we could trigger a snake to potentially attack us. Always remember to follow precautions when outdoors and get to a hospital as soon as you can if you've been bitten by any snake.
If you see a snake, back away from it slowly and do not touch it. If ever you are bitten by a snake, try to see and remember the color and shape of the snake, which can help with treatment of the snake bite. Once bitten, the victim should immediately look for medical attention.
There are many unbelievable and strange snakes in our world. It is best to know the nature of these snakes, how to describe them, and what to do if ever we face a deadly snake, especially if we are bitten.
