Touching Frogs and Toads Won't Give You Warts

One of the most common myths regarding toads and frogs is that you can get a wart if you hold one. They've had a poor name for a long time, and it's one that they don't deserve. It is our responsibility to clear the air about these little guys.

Shaking hands with someone who has a wart, on the other hand, is one way to get one. Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus, which is only found in humans. The virus induces an accumulation of keratin to form on the skin's surface, resulting in a wart.

Ostriches Don't Bury their Heads in the Ground

When ostriches are attacked, they do not simply dig their heads in the dirt, as you might have seen in cartoons. They don't really bury their heads; it's all something made up for TV.

When ostriches are threatened, they flop down and pretend to be dead. We're not sure what could frighten the world's biggest eagle, but if it is, we wouldn't like to come into touch with it.

Gorillas and Potatoes Have Genetic Similarities 

Although it may seem odd to lump gorillas and potatoes into the same grouping, the two share something special. Gorillas and potatoes have 48 genes, while humans have 46. The parallels finish there, but they can still be grouped together in one category.

We can easily picture a gorilla munching on a potato, recognizing that they share at least one trait. If it knew they shared the connection, it would savor the potato a little longer.

Some Pigs Can be as Heavy as a Bear

Apart from the miniature pigs that we see on Instagram, most pigs are very huge. A typical pig weighs about 285 pounds, but a farm in China's southern area has a pig the size of a polar bear. It is massive, weighing in at 1,102 pounds.

Regrettably, the large pig is part of a herd being raised to produce giant swine for meat consumption. Unfortunately, these pigs are in great demand due to their high price. We're not sure how they got it to be that big, but it had to eat a lot.

Kangaroo Mouse Does Not Need to Drink 

Despite being named after an Australian mammal capable of fighting even the strongest boxer in the world, the kangaroo mouse is found in the Nevada desert. Since it lives in such a dry environment, it has adapted by having all of its hydration from the seeds it consumes.

This indicates that the kangaroo mouse does not drink water. This little guy is our superhero because he still remembers to keep hydrated. If only we could have enough water to last us a day without remembering to drink it.

Greenland Sharks Only Reaches Sexual Maturity at 150

Greenland sharks are among the most fascinating sharks on the planet, and they survive for a very long time. A Greenland shark's average lifespan is about 250 years, but they can live up to 500 years.

They don't reach sexual maturity until they are 150 years old and live such long lives. They mature slowly to satisfy their long lifespans when floating across the ocean for all those years.

Unlike Other Mammals with Two, The Two-Toed Sloth and the Manatee Has More

It's definitely difficult to concentrate on facts while an adorable sloth is looking at you, but two-toed sloths and manatees are the only species with differing numbers of neck vertebrae. We all have seven vertebrae, whether we're a giraffe, a rat, or a cat.

With eight to nine vertebrae, sloths and manatees have an almost 360-degree view of their surroundings. It's a formidable cover for one of nature's sluggish mammals. They evolved over time to avoid being eaten by predators.
