Marine researchers have been left wondering after they saw an unknown sea creature washed up on the shore of the beach in Wales last week.
Until now, experts have not been able to identify what the faceless, rotten creature really is, though researchers are now trying to know if it is a basking shark.
The Marine Environmental Monitoring Team
The finding was made on the south beach of Broad Haven in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with a Marine Environmental Monitoring team being called to come and investigate. The organization have restricted the number of strandings as a result of the ongoing risk caused by COVID as they only attend to the ones that seem more unusual.
The organization got a call to investigate a very huge blob that had been washed up on the South beach of Broad Haven, because of its size, they thought it could be a whale.
Also, inside one of the pictures that had been presented, it seemed like there was a large roll of something inside the stomach and because of this, they decided to attend.
When they got there, it became obvious that it wasn't a whale but instead, it was some form of large fish which is around 7m in length. Besides, what they saw was a large roll of something that later came out to be just a part of its vertebrates.
The researchers from the Marine Environmental Monitoring group said "all evidence found presently pins down on it being a basking shark. We have collected many photos of key parts and some samples have also been taken so that we can analyze and confirm that it is truly a basking shark."

Second Basking Shark
According to commenters on the Facebook page of the Marine Environmental Monitoring, "if truly it's a basking shark, then it is the second basking shark to wash up in the past few months on Welsh Beach."
The Marine Environmental Monitoring organization said they did try and locate the one at Newport in order to take samples but failed to find it because it has been taken out by the flood and dropped in different locations day by day.
Another Basking Shark Washed Up Last Year
In late December last year, one more basking shark was washed up on Newport Beach in Wales. Basking sharks are discovered in waters beside the British coastline, nevertheless, the organization said it was odd for a basking shark to wash up in Wales.
Basking sharks are known to be the second-largest shark species in the world, and one of the plankton-eating shark species with adults increasing in length of around 18m. Whale sharks are the only species of shark that is bigger than basking sharks and both of them are filter feeders and they have large mouths which helps them to eat much. They have mottled skin and are usually greyish brown.
