A snowstorm is expected to occur in the northeastern United States. This was after the capital of the nation was hit on Sunday. A storm warning was issued from Virginia to Maine from the National Weather Service. These area houses millions of people. Blizzard conditions of up to about 45-60 centimetres were also predicted to occur in Newyork, New Jersy and some areas of southwest Connecticut.
Forecast and Preparation Advisory
From the forecast by the national weather service, the wind speed could be up to about 35-50 mph. They warned that the snowstorm could compromise visibility and cause trees to fall. A state of emergency was issued by the governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy prompting the closure of roads, evacuation of homes and deployment of equipment needed to assure public safety. He also halted public transportation and alerted the utility companies to prepare for power outages.
From his Twitter account, he urged New Jersey residents to charge their devices and report any case of a power outage. Last week the storm hit California, descending with snow and rain. From there it moved to the Midwest and afterwards Chicago. "Coastal floods, heavy snow and winds are expected in different parts of the state," Murphy said. He went on to say that the safety of workers and residents are highly prioritized and that people should follow all guidelines and stay off the road.
State of Emergency Declared by The Mayor of New York City
The Mayor of New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio on late Sunday night declared a state of emergency, and stopped nonessential travel. Washington experienced snowfall from Saturday night till Sunday. The NWS predicted a winter storm between three to five inches in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington. These regions are expected to feel the impact of the snow accompanied by ice, freezing rain and sleet till Tuesday.
Preparations For The Snowstorm in Other Regions
In Arlington, classes would still continue normally, learning would not be halted as they are online due to the ongoing pandemic. Bill Drake, a math teacher at Washington-Liberty high school said getting students to pay attention in class would be hard when it's snowing outside. He's looking forward to how classes on Tuesday would go.
A winter storm warning was issued by the NWS for the Milwaukee metro area, all through the Illinois border. Milwaukee was hit with 10 inches deep snow on Saturday night through Monday. The snowstorm accompanied by heavy snow that poured on Tuesday caused snow depths of 15 inches or even higher in the area. Chris Stumpf, a meteorologist with the NWS in Sullivan, Wisconsin commented that the snow was the highest they had experienced for up to ten years.
A White House official reported that the Newly elected President had a meeting with advisors on Sunday to discuss pressing issues including the winter storm, vaccines against Covid-19 and economic relief.

Windstorms are winds strong enough to damage trees, buildings and exposed items. The wind speed exceeds about 55km per hour and may or may not be accompanied by precipitation. There are different types of storms like heavy rain, blizzard, ice storms and thunderstorms.
