A wayward kangaroo hopped into an Australian airport Wednesday, surprising travelers and generating headlines before being cornered in a pharmacy and captured by animal control officers.

Before hopping into the pharmacy at Melbourne Airport's domestic terminal, the marsupial was injured along a nearby road, the Sydney Morning Herald reported, causing some to playfully wonder if the kangaroo knew what it was doing by going into a pharmacy.

Luck or instinct aside, the kangaroo made a good choice. Emergency responders were close by and were able to sedate the animal and take it to a local veterinary clinic.

It is unclear how the kangaroo -- which has been named Cyrus, after one of the rescuers on the scene -- made its way to the level two of the airport, where the pharmacy is located, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Animal rescue volunteers from Wildlife Victoria sedated Cyrus and later took him to a veterinarian for treatment.

Wildlife Victoria can receive more than 1,000 calls regarding wayward kangaroos each week, the Sydney Morning Herald said, adding that calls to the outfit are up by about 40 percent since this time last year.

As odd as it may seem, this is not the first time a kangaroo has made its way into Melbourne Airport. The airport backs up against bushland where kangaroo are common. However, locals were shocked and amused that an injured kangaroo would up in a pharmacy, of all places.

In January of this year, animal rescuers saw to a kangaroo that made its way into the airport's parking garage.

A similar incident also occurred in 2012.
