In Kerala, India, a wild elephant was seen standing frozen in Velliyar River, with its head dipped in the water. In a report, the elephant was said to have died after being fed a pineapple that was filled with firecrackers.

In an autopsy report, it was found that the elephant was apparently pregnant.

Chief wildlife warden Surendra Kumar said that the elephant's jaw was broken as the fireworks exploded in her mouth right after chewing on the pineapple. After this, it was no longer able to eat. Kumar expressed his outrage as he said he was sure that the explosive-filled pineapple was meant to kill the elephant.

Wildlife official Mohan Krishnan posted on Facebook a heartbreaking apology to the elephant after seeing that they could not do anything to save it.

Although they have yet to identify who did this, Kumar said that whoever it was, he will be punished. "I have directed the forest officials to nab the culprit. We will punish him for 'hunting' the elephant," he said.

The Kerala Forest Department, later on, reminded India's citizens to be kind to animals in a tweet.
