Sasquatch researchers released video footage Wednesday they believe proves the existence of an animal many consider to be merely mythological.
Shown at a press conference in Dallas, the videos feature multiple gorilla-like forms walking upright through the woods as well as one sleeping. The researchers say of those caught on film, one appears to be a juvenile and another a female adult.
Realizing the skepticism of many on the subject, members of the group, known as the Sasquatch Genome Project, emphasized they themselves did not always believe in the existence of such an animal.
"We've all had experiences that have changed our life, I mean literally shook the foundations of what we believed in," Project Manager Dennis Pfohl said in the press conference, ABC8 reports.
For Pfohl, the change of heart started when he and his family came across large footprints in the snowcapped Colorado mountains.
"And so things like that shook your reality, shake your world," he said. "You say, there's got to be more to this subject than just the myth."
The same goes for Melba Ketchum, the director of the Sasquatch DNA project who received her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Texas A&M before going on to found DNA Diagnostics in 1985.
In an interview with ABC8 Ketchum stated: "I didn't believe they existed when I started this. Not only does the DNA prove it but I've actually seen them at this point."
In February, the Sasquatch Genome Project published the study "Novel North American Hominins, Next Generation Sequencing of Three Whole Genomes and Associated Studies," which the researchers say is a five-year study and genomic sequencing of Sasquatch DNA.
However, as LiveScience notes, the journal that published the study, called DeNovo Scientific Journal, has no other publications and is not subscribed to by any libraries or universities.
