Outline of research papers

Outlining is a good idea for anyone writing a research paper - it will help you to brainstorm ideas and keep them organized so that your paper flows well. You can draw on the basis of historical events, cause and effect relationships and the logic of a place or the process of accomplishing something. Most word processors have an outline feature that makes it easy to create and edit sketches.

Heading

The purpose of your title page or caption is to state the name of your paper and include other important information such as your name, instructor name, class name and date. Unless otherwise indicated, the title should appear in the left-hand border at the top of the first page of your paper.

Abstract

The purpose of the summary is to review this paper. The abstract should contain the main ideas and ideas of the paper but should not be longer than the paragraph of the couple.

Introduction

The main purpose of the introduction is to present a research paper. This section should arouse the curious and the reader's curiosity. An introduction can vary from a few paragraphs to several pages for a short research paper (3-5 pages) or to a senior project or thesis chapter.

Body

The body of your research paper contains most of the information and facts. This should be the longest section of your paper. Here are some tips for writing a good body of research paper:

  • Double place on entire paper, including work page reference.
  • Avoid the phrase "I think" or "I think". Since you are the author, people already know that the views expressed are yours.
  • Avoid passive voice. For example, instead of writing "America was discovered by Christopher Columbus", "Christopher Columbus discovered America."
  • Read your paper aloud. Are you stumbling on words? Are they flowing well? Do the sentences look natural? This is a great way to create sentences and tell if you need a review. You can also find grammatical errors by reading your paper aloud.
  • Always read your essay to someone else. They will catch errors and give useful advice.
  • Use spelling and grammar tools in your word processor.
  • Avoid clogging. If you use someone else's ideas, even if you repeat them on your way, you still need to give credit to that person.
  • Do not delay. Well researched research papers take time and if you wait until the night before the paper is over, you will be busy writing for a long time.
